Sword Health, a Digital Therapeutics venture founded in Portugal in 2014, has raised $30 million and enabled employees to sell $100 million worth of equity to new and existing investors, including Khosla Ventures. This latest round has elevated the 10-year-old company’s valuation to $3 billion, a 50% increase from its Series D valuation of $2 billion in November 2021. 🎉 Initially, Sword Health's Series D1 round aimed at facilitating a $100 million secondary transaction to allow employees and early investors to sell shares. However, the company also raised an additional $30 million, which will be banked for future opportunities. This strategic decision highlights Sword Health's commitment to growth and stability, even amidst the challenging fundraising environment of 2024. This latest primary round brings Sword Health’s total funding to $430 million. Recently completed an investment in a #HealthTech startup - Attomarker UK. The company specialises in rapid diagnostics using blood-samples from a finger-prick for many conditions including #LongCovid. But from my pov the big promise of their tech is early detection of viral infections v/s bacterial infections. This can therefore significantly reduce the use of Antibiotics that the medical world globally is so used to as the first line of treatment. In countries like #India, where #antibiotic resistance, due to over-prescription, is a massive problem, this tech could be a boon for patients. The government's announcement on boosting AI is timely and an area where Embecosm has worked for many years. Best practice in AI is something TechWorks have been addressing for the electronics systems industry under the leadership of my colleague William Jones since early 2023. The overall approach William and his team have developed boils down to 5 questions. 1. Should I use AI? 2. Which sort of AI should I use? 3. How do I collect and prepare my data? 4. How do I train my AI? 5. How to I deploy my AI? Of course there is then a lot of detail in answering these questions fully. In my experience at Embecosm many companies forget questions 1 and 3.
