Today represented a welcome period of outperformance for the FTSE 100, beating the main indices on either side of the Atlantic. This came off the back of a sharp decline in both core and headline inflation, helping to boost expectations of rate cuts at both November and December BoE meetings. On the headline side of it we had a notable decline in transportation costs (-2.2%), as air fares and petrol prices fell back. Meanwhile, services sector continues to be the dominant driver of core price pressures, with goods moving deeper into deflation territory (-1.4%). Nonetheless, at 4.9% we can see that prices within the services sector continue to run hot. Taken alongside yesterdays 4.9% wage growth metric, the BoE may yet remain cautious despite calls for a sharp move lower in the bank rate (currently 5%). In the wake of today's data we have seen markets pricing a 80% chance that the bank cuts in the final two meetings of the year, hence the weakness in GBP and FTSE outperformance. With the ECB expected to cut tomorrow, will todays relative moves continue? Getting into a flow state. Often it's through discussing productivity or you have a focus playlist on and writing up a suitability report for a client. However this article talks about having a cashflow as a state of mind, and really using it to its full capabilities, ingrained into every part of the process. I just updated my headline to showcase how important I find cashflow models, mainly because it's one of the strong cornerstones to a good discussion with a client. I came from Mortgages where we discussed if a mortgage is affordable in the grand scheme but it was more of a high level overview. Whereas now I can get more into the detail and helping explain to clients how they can achieve their goals or how xyz change can meet them.

A couple of days ago, Baroness Sharon Bowles was kind enough to take some time to discuss her Private Members' Bill (PMB), entitled: Listed Investment Companies (Classification etc) Bill [HL]. The Bill has its First Reading on Thursday 5th September in the House of Lords, following which there could be an interminable wait whilst the legislative process grinds on. https://lnkd.in/gp3HM4rh The Bill is 14th on the list of PMBs and the 13 preceding Bills must have their Second Readings, before this one. The timetable for debate is limited: one Friday a month is ordinarily allocated to debating PMBs, and there is time to debate roughly 3 PMBs per session. That means Baroness Bowles' PMB is unlikely to have its second reading before the New Year. I asked if there were any way in which this process could be accelerated, and the good news is that there is! The Government could adopt the Bill, or 'steal it' and create a Statutory Instrument to push it through rapidly. The Bill is thought to be very unusual in nature, hence the extensive cast of contributors below, so now that the heavy lifting of drafting the Bill has been done, adoption by HM Treasury would be an easy, quick win. I will leave it there and wish Baroness Bowles success with this vital piece of corrective legislation. Last week, I posted a video discussing Capital Acquisition Tax, formerly known as inheritance tax. Many of you shared your thoughts in the comments, let's keep the conversation going on this topic... Currently, parents can give their children up to €335,000 in their lifetime without incurring tax. Any amount above this threshold is subject to taxation. Before 2008, the threshold was over half a million euros, but it was drastically reduced to around €200,000 after the economic crash. Since then, the threshold has gradually increased to its current level of €335,000. What actions can we take to urge the government to review and possibly increase this €335,000 threshold?
