Are you a learning delivery leader pushing yourself to the limit? You might be on the edge of burnout without realising it, and from experience when it happens it can be life changing. Burnout is different for every person, which is why it’s difficult to detect it before it happens. Some common signs of impending burnout: * Feeling drained all the time * Easily overwhelmed * Emotional or irritable * Experiencing self-doubt * Difficulty disconnecting from work * Procrastination and inability to get work done as you usually would do * Neglecting self-care and personal relationships The effects of burnout can be severe, and there are too many potential effects to list, however here are some common ones: * Decreased productivity and creativity * Impaired decision-making * Physical health issues such as fatigue, headaches, frequent illness, insomnia, headaches, changes in appetite, body aches * Strained personal relationships * Emotional disconnection * Brain fog Don't let burnout derail your career and wellbeing. Some actions you can take to prevent it: * Set firm work-life boundaries * Prioritise sleep and exercise * Delegate tasks and build a support network * Practice mindfulness and stress-reduction techniques (even five minutes a day can make a difference) * Take regular breaks and use holiday time #LeadershipWellness #BurnoutPrevention #Balance

My Book - Empowering Employee Engagement The book offers team managers a unique process for improving the performance of their team using a range of coaching skills and tools. The aim is to enable any manager to bring about fundamental change within an unengaged or dysfunctional team, even if that means losing staff members. Helen, from Sheffield Hallam University, kindly shared her experience of reading it: ‘Claire’s book is an inspiration as it is a detailed account of a real project including the hopes, fears, ups and downs along the way. It has given me the confidence to use some/all of the programme within my workplace. It is theory rich, written from a personal place and documents a journey for herself and others. It is lovely to read the team’s stories and what they were all doing 18 months later and it is very helpful that Claire has shared resources. I think we are up against it.... though there is hope, possibility and opportunity, not doom and gloom! But I do think that us 'Improvement' people.... of all flavours .... CI/lean/Agile/Design Thinking/Critical Thinking/Systems Change/Change Mgmt/Transformation etc....... are up against a system where making things better is not the name of the game! At the same time so many of the people working in this space want to do just that - make the world of our work, our mahi, what we do a better place - for everyone...... ..... I ask then ..... What do we do???? We are not (generally) the money holders, the ones with the major resources or in the first instance the decision makers...... So .... Team..... What are we going to do???? What are we going to do??? [P.s. I do have a poster that says this | The only way to deal with an unfree world is to become so absolutely free, that your very existence is an act of rebellion, Albert Camus ... 😉 ] Working on it!

Experiencing impostor thoughts doesn’t mean you aren’t good at your job! There is actually no correlation between impostor syndrome and performance – the thoughts are our inner critic having too much voice, which can negatively impact our job satisfaction and general wellbeing. When people experience these thoughts they can feel quite isolated – but one of the most frequent responses from sessions I run with people is the sense of relief that they aren’t alone and that there is something that they can do about it.
