Microsoft has announced that starting in July 2024, multifactor authentication (MFA) will be mandatory for all Azure sign-ins: This requirement is part of a phased rollout aimed at enhancing security across Azure services: Phase 1: Beginning in the second half of 2024, MFA will be enforced for sign-ins to the Azure portal, Microsoft Entra admin center, and Microsoft Intune admin center. This phase will gradually be applied to all tenants worldwide and will not affect other Azure clients like Azure CLI, Azure PowerShell, Azure mobile app, or Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools. Phase 2: Starting in early 2025, MFA enforcement will extend to Azure CLI, Azure PowerShell, Azure mobile app, and IaC tools. This phase will also be gradually implemented for all tenants. Microsoft will notify global administrators about the enforcement dates for their tenants 60 days in advance through email and Azure Service Health Notifications. There will be a grace period for select customers who need additional time to comply with the MFA requirement. The enforcement applies to all users performing any Create, Read, Update, or Delete (CRUD) operations on the specified applications.
