Your live event didn't go as planned. How can you turn it into a valuable lesson for future success?
It is absolutely true that no event will ever be perfect- often in planning you have to compromise certain elements and prioritize others. These compromises are done for the overall best outcome but still the impact may be seen as “failures”. Additionally even when you make all the best strategic decisions you possibly can pre-event there are soooo many variables at an event there is a 100% chance something unexpected will go wrong. After planning events for over 10 years I can honestly say some new and totally unexpected has gone wrong at every one. For that you have to be resilient for sure- event planners put their heart and souls into it so you gotta be tough!

You've gathered leads at a trade show, but they're non-responsive. How do you reignite their interest?
Following up quickly after the event is really important, as is understanding the personal interaction that happened with the person at the event and making sure the follow up is relevant if possible. If email isn’t working give them a call or connect on social, ideally the same person or referencing the same person they spoke with at the event. Following up really is a continuation of the conversation that took place so it should be cohesive with whatever experience the person had there rather than just adding them to a generic mailing list.

You're facing sudden changes at a live event. How can strategic thinking help you navigate the unexpected?
People are your best resource. From the venue team, contractors, temp staff, clients, partners, employees- be nice to them all! Everyone plays a valuable role in creating the event and can be equally valuable when things go wrong. So be willing to compromise to find the best solution for everyone and do it with a smile on your face! Although you do need to take charge of the situation, you can also be surprised what others will do to resolve a problem if you just ask nicely! And don’t forget to buy them a drink later to say Thankyou 🙏🙂

You're meeting new clients virtually. How do you ensure your credibility shines through?
Just think of it as meeting a new client in real life! Be super prepared, on time, be comfortable and in a great state of mind 🙂 It’s always nice to research a little about who will be present if multiple people are joining so you can anticipate their role in conversations. Virtual conversations can be a little disjointed sometimes so just be patient and polite if you lose connection or freeze frame at any point! Make sure you leave the call with next steps/recap of what was discussed and try your best to stick to time!
