𝗨𝗦 𝗡𝗼𝗻-𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗲𝘁𝗲 𝗟𝗮𝗻𝗱𝘀𝗰𝗮𝗽𝗲 - 𝗤𝘂𝗮𝗻𝘁/𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗴𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗡𝗬𝗖 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗴𝗼 With the recent news regarding US non-compete ban legislation in motion, there will be a huge impact on the highly competitive and secretive Hedge Fund and Prop Trading industry, where non-competes have been spiralling over the past few years, to the point where most people have 12 month minimum and very often up to 24-36 months. Many people feel like they are shackled to their position by a multi-year sit out, meaning they may hold on to their current position when they would ideally want to move on. Part of this plays on top of the occasional uncertainty about sitting out over that period and being 'out of the market' that is especially found in trading/investment employees. Being able to swiftly join a new team also increases your profiles attractiveness to a new firm and their plans to grow. This can translate not only to better offers, but a chance to earn bonuses and upside comp while you'd likely be earning a lesser amount during your NC. ‼️ Big News in the Markets: The SEC Approves 24-Hour Stock Trading ‼️ The SEC recently approved its first 24-hour stock exchange, marking a significant shift in how U.S. markets operate. This new platform, 24X National Exchange, aims to launch in the second half of 2025, providing nearly round-the-clock trading for business days. Initially, trading will run from 4:00 AM ET to 7:00 PM ET on weekdays. However, the goal is to extend this from 8:00 PM ET on Sunday through 7:00 PM ET on Friday, with a one-hour pause each day—pending final regulatory approvals. Investment team build - how it worked out: A new alternatives investor in Abu Dhabi was looking to build a team, starting with 3-4 hires to cover global funds, co-investments and directs. They wanted a diverse team to focus on North America, Europe and Asia whilst the CIO needed people who could dive straight into deals without training. The major challenge was – and usually is – pitching the opportunity to Investment Bankers, Growth Equity and Buyout investors who prefer to hear about established firms; and weren’t keen to take much risk if relocating. After a 4 round interview process, next up is the leap of faith. The usual hurdles came up: upcoming bonuses, notice periods and sometimes partners who also need to find a new role here. A lot of time is spent getting to know someone’s motives, family/plans, career goals, how they think about money, quality of life and anything else they want to talk about. While steering through interviews, offers, resignations and relocation, the CIO had doubts over hiring people who were “too similar” – leading to tough calls to let down a couple of Associates and a VP simply because the team needed to add a mix of different languages or geographical experience. That’s not to mention a CFO mindful of budgets – before agreeing it was costing a fraction of the $200m+ per year they planned to deploy.   Looking back – extremely proud of my team for managing it to completion, with an Investment Manager from North America, a Director from within the UAE, and over the course of a few months, two Associates from Asia. ⭐ The best part – not just filling seats or fees, but building strong relationships, a very satisfied client, and a high-performing team.

WithIntelligence recently reported on Private Credit Fundraising in H1 2024 with a number of interesting key insights: Decline in Fundraising: The private credit sector experienced a 14.7% drop in total fundraising in H1 2024, reaching $79 billion compared to $93 billion in H1 2023. This was largely due to a slow Q1, where concerns over inflation and higher interest rates led to a 47% decline in final closes. Mega-funds Dominance: Mega-funds, defined as those with at least $10 billion in commitments, have become increasingly prominent. Two such funds—Goldman Sachs' West Street Loan Partners V and HPS Investment Partners’ Specialty Loan Fund VI—accounted for 44% of all fundraising in H1 2024. Geographical Distribution: North America-focused funds raised $38.3 billion, a 17.7% decrease compared to H1 2023. Europe also saw a decline, with $12.7 billion raised, more than a third less than the previous year. Fundraising for multi-region strategies remained stable at $26.5 billion. Shift Towards Credit Specialists: There was a continued shift toward credit specialists, with these managers raising $42 billion in H1 2024, compared to $32.9 billion raised by multi-asset platforms. Eight of the top 10 fundraisers were credit specialists. Private Wealth Focus: Fundraising efforts increasingly targeted private wealth clients, particularly through '40 Act funds such as BDCs and interval funds.
