Intent data is a hot commodity at the moment, but most sales teams don’t know how to effectively use it. I helped launch Salesloft , Gong , 6sense and many others in the UK via Sales Confidence I’ll be honest I’ve not been as excited about a new GTM technology as much as I am about Clay (And for once I’m not being paid - yet ;) ) The flexibility, possibilities and opportunity to impact your pipeline is incredible. This has the feel of the Salesforce , HubSpot ecosystem effect. I’m seeing consultants, agencies, experts popping up in my feed particularly in the US rapidly over the last 6 months. I’m not surprised they have just raised $62 M at a $500 M valuation! Varun Anand and Kareem Amin are doing amazing things! I don’t really see it as a SDR or sales person end user tool…tell me if you feel differently? However, it’s application to drive productivity and efficiency accross your sales team is epic! Advancing to a Senior Role, from a Coaching Conversation this week In a recent coaching session, I was happy to hear an individual I've been coaching gained success in their SDR content creation efforts on LinkedIn, and the smile on their face with the results 😊 I was then asked about strategies for moving towards promotion to a Senior BDR or AE role. Here’s a run-down of the actionable advice I shared: 1. Understand the Role: Obtain and thoroughly review the job descriptions for the Senior BDR and AE positions. This will help you understand the competencies required for these roles. 2. Identify and Bridge Gaps: Assess the gaps between your current skills and those needed for the target role. Could you create a targeted plan to develop these skills? 3. Learn from the Best: Shadow and learn from high-performing colleagues who are already in the roles you aspire to, and ask questions why they do what they do Observing their strategies and approaches can provide valuable insights. 4. Document Your Achievements: Keep a detailed record of your progress and accomplishments. This documentation will help you demonstrate your readiness for promotion. (My fave tip that aids in the actual promotion discussion) 5. Adopt a Growth Mindset: Maintain a humble, learning-oriented attitude. Be open to taking on additional responsibilities to showcase your commitment and capability. Stop obsessing over OTE on its own. It's a vanity metric that doesn't really matter if loads of other factors aren't on point. I know a lot of AE's ''on €160k OTE'' who just earn their base salary. The achievability of the OTE and the impacting factors do matter: - Quality of leadership - Training & Coaching - Product Market Fit - % current team on target - Saturation of the sales team - Bonus Structure OTE is an important aspect of course, but all A players I speak with don't give much importance to the OTE figure on its own.

As a profession, Sales can be tough. It requires: - Unerring determination - Grit - Self-belief That is just a few of the internal skills needed. What are some practises that you swear by to maintain that positive frame of mind as you tackle each new challenge?

Automation for sales reach out. For scale of messaging its hard to fault it, but the problem is, often it will message contacts that are not right for the service or product you are selling, and I have recently had messages from competitors. Its not their fault, I have been guilty of it before but its because we are too keen to hit 'send'. The automated message outreach tools for me are missing a vital area that is a MUST is sales reach out... the 'Research phase'. I see it all the time on here of Cold Calling being dead. I think the problem is we have allowed cold calling as a skillset to die or fade away, and now a key differentiator for sales people are those who can pick up the phone vs those who won't. One thing is for sure, when making a cold call, you would always do some sort of research on the person you are calling and the kind of business they represent. I have recently started using Dripify, and it seems ok, but its important that before I allow an array of messaging to go out to a list of contacts, that I have done some research, checked website, LinkedIn profile, who are they, what do they do, and are they likely to be a business that will take value in what I am offering them. It slows down the process a little. But at least I am confident I am targeting potential interested parties, or at least trying to.
