⭐️ 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝗻 𝗜𝗖𝗨 𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗱𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗿𝗶𝘂𝗺 David Richards @ICU_Diaries survived a severe case of ARDS in 2009-2010. As part of this he experienced severe delirium. In a really informative paper he describes how his recovery was in part attributable to a detailed diary kept during his 6 weeks in ICU. The diary was mainly kept by his partner. The diary has both handwritten notes & photographs. It includes: - Clinical updates on his condition - Conversations with family and medical staff - Richards' reactions and attempts at communication as he emerged from a 4-week coma, initially with delirium & fragmented memories Richards describes the diary as a lifeline that grounded him, helped him sift through distorted memories, & ultimately make sense of his awful ordeal. It allowed him to: - Trace a timeline of events, piecing together his fragmented memories of his time in ICU - Distinguish real memories from hallucinations - Grasp the severity of his illness through early entries that documented his critical condition & the real possibility of death The diary also provided a window into the emotional landscape of his illness, documenting: - His vivid nightmares and delusions which he later linked to specific medical procedures, such as the insertion of chest drains. - The profound psychological impact of ARDS, including fear, delirium, and paranoia. - His deep longing for his children and the central role of family connection in his recovery. See link below 👇 https://lnkd.in/eyDmsGZd It was a great team effort and I am honoured to have had the opportunity to take part in this. 🔸User feedback and changes in opinion of healthcare staff over time working with #AI in a real world setting is an important factor to recognise 🔸 We found that staff change their attitudes to #AI inc. their perceived benefits and drawbacks after having experience of it 🔸 We saw that staff were more willing to have #AI used on themselves if they were a patient over time 🔸 Not everything was perfect. It is therefore important for anyone implementing #AI to keep communication channels open and re-evaluate how the tool is used in the care pathway to ensure ongoing clinical effectiveness. There was a lot of support and interest in this study when I presented it recently at EuSoMII - European Society of Medical Imaging Informatics in Pisa and a general sentiment amongst attendees that more attention should be given to human-AI interaction and human factors in the coming years when thinking about #AI influence in healthcare.

Unfit regulator. First Evolut FX + cases undertaken by Professor Sagar Doshi BSc MBChB FRCP MD FACC and Dr. Adnan Nadir MD FACC FESC at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust Last week we undertook our first Medtronic Evolut FX + cases. The achilles of the Evolut platform has been relatively poor coronary access due to the small cell design. As demonstrated by our first case, this has been rectified by the new large cells in the Evolut FX + design. Using cusp overlap and commissural alignment we deployed a 29 mm Evolut FX + in our first case. There was no aortic regurgitation and no conduction disturbance. We were able to readily engage the left coronary artery with a standard FL 4 diagnostic catheter through the new large cell. This is a vast improvement on the Evolut platform and we are delighted to have this technology available at our institution. I had the pleasure of discussing the big picture of AI adoption in healthcare and why engaged, knowledgeable leadership is critical. 👉 AI’s not the magic answer—it’s a powerful tool, but only when used strategically! 👈 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐛𝐲 𝐚𝐬𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠:  ❗ What are your biggest pain points and problem? ❗ What does success look like to you? ❗ Then, think: can AI help bridge those gaps? 👥 Good leadership and clear communication across teams are essential for meaningful adoption. 🌱 And of course... The Society and College of Radiographers (SCoR) has long held the view that radiographers have an important role in the evaluation of nasogastric (NG) tube placement. Incorrect X-ray confirmation and interpretation is the most common cause of NG tube incidents, despite research suggesting this is the most accurate method if a standard process is consistently followed. About a million NG tubes are purchased for use in the NHS every year and have been the subject of numerous patient safety alerts over the past 15 years. Misplacement of a tube in the respiratory tract is classed as a ‘Never Event’ if it is not detected before starting a feed, or administering fluid or medication. #Radiographer empowerment and workforce training is a highly effective strategy to reduce nasogastric tube-related never events, as radiographers can highlight misplaced nasogastric tubes and initiate actions to rectify this at the time they acquire the nasogastric tube X-ray. NHS pilot sites are sought to trial and support this new pathway, through engagement with the e-learning materials and a commitment to changing practice on the ground. #Radiographer #Reporting #SCoR #CXR

If there is a uterine polyp, should it always be removed via hysteroscopy? An interesting question commissioned by the NIHR this month for further research. Perhaps the gynaecology community settled to always recommending hysteroscopic removal of polyp, symptomatic or not, especially with the wide availability of outpatient hysteroscopy... but is this always needed? Most importantly, what do women diagnosed with polyps want? All interesting research questions needing more research.

Another hybrid case of DES and DCB. 61 year old man, previous mid Lcx stent a few years ago, severe ostial Lcx and ostial high OM stenosis. Predilated both, POBA to high OM with 3.0 x 30 mm DCB, stented ostial Lcx with Xience Skypoint 3.0 x 15 mm, recrossed and kissing balloon inflation LCx/OM. Then kissing balloon inflation LAD/LCx.
