Emma McGrath is thrilled to share her latest research at #ISPOREurope, offering critical insights into advancing health technology assessments (HTAs) and patient-centric healthcare policies. Here’s a preview of what she’ll be presenting: 1. The Growing Role of Patient Organisations in HTA: Emma will share data reflecting the increasing involvement of patient organisations (POs) in HTA processes, focusing on trends from 2022 to 2024: 🔹 Oncology submissions: Significant growth reflects heightened awareness and advocacy for cancer treatments. 🔹 Non-Oncology submissions: Continue to dominate, highlighting the diversity of patient needs across therapeutic areas. 🔹 Rare Disease submissions: Consistently critical, emphasising the need for advocacy in underserved conditions. 🔹 Key takeaway: PO involvement not only amplifies patient voices but also strengthens equitable, patient-centred health policies, ensuring better access to treatments for all groups. 2. The Role of Clinical Opinion (CO) in Rapid Reviews (RR): Emma will present an analysis of 38 RR dossiers which AXIS developed for the National Centre for Pharmacoeconomics (NCPE) over a 2 year period which demonstrates the value of CO in reimbursement decisions. 🔹 Key finding: RRs incorporating advisory boards had a 75% success rate in achieving positive reimbursement outcomes, compared to 50% for those without CO. 🔹 Insight: CO is valuable, but it’s one piece of the larger puzzle in ensuring successful outcomes. 3. The Role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in HTAs: Exploring how AI is revolutionizing HTA processes in Ireland and the UK, Emma will highlight its potential to enhance data analytics, predictive modelling, and decision-making. 🔹 Key takeaway: To fully realise AI’s potential, governance frameworks must address transparency, accountability, and ethical use. 🔹 Future outlook: The development of AI-specific guidelines is crucial to making HTA processes more robust and equitable. Emma’s presentations highlight the importance of collaboration, innovation, and patient advocacy in shaping the future of health economics and outcomes research.
