𝗖𝗵𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗮 𝟬𝟯𝟰𝟯 - 𝗜𝗻 𝗪𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗵 Elmoatasem Ragab 𝗘𝗿𝗼𝗱𝗲𝘀 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝘆... Mentorship is more than teaching; it’s revealing the unseen. And in one of Elmoatasem’s recent two-hour mentorship sessions, he shared a deceptively simple trick with Moises Moreno using a filter erode. What followed wasn’t just a lesson in compositing; it was an exploration of artistry and control over the very fabric of an image. Elmoatasem began with the basics: erosion adjusts an image by gradually stripping away brighter values, letting darker tones rise to prominence. Reverse the process, and the opposite occurs. It sounds simple, but the power lies in understanding how to wield it. Then came the twist. “What if we stack two erodes?” Elmoatasem proposed. One pushes forward; the other pulls back. With this dual erosion, something fascinating happens, fine details fade, but the broader shapes and tonal integrity remain. It’s like chiseling a sculpture out of raw stone, removing what doesn’t belong while preserving the essence. To take it further, Elmoatasem introduced a technique to streamline experimentation: linking the two erodes with an expression. By using the expression editor, he inverted one filter’s value in relation to the other. Adjust the first, and the second responds in perfect opposition. The result? Precision control that invites creative discovery. A single tweak reveals how the interplay of erodes reshapes an image’s tone, contrast, and detail in real-time. As Elmoatasem demonstrated the technique, the screen transformed. Brighter frequencies dissolved, giving way to an understated elegance. These moments of discovery are what define Alpha Chromatica. It’s not just about learning the tools but uncovering the creative possibilities they unlock. Elmoatasem’s erode technique may be small in execution, but its implications are vast. So animating multiple figures interacting is...hard. Happy with how this has been coming out though and isn't it so satisfying to have one of the harder shots in an animation done and dusted. Animated Retro Poster NO.7; Logarhythms 🕺 🕺 🕺 🕺 🕺 🕺 Something a little funky for this one, no animation, just a bit of mucking around with footage and effects. Looking at the figures on the poster, it was pretty clear this needed to be some footage wizardry, it was never going to be a result accurate to the original design but I'm proper happy with it regardless. 7 posters in and I still haven't thought of a decent name for the series though😥  ----- This is my quest to inject life into some excellent retro design. I'm treating it as a mini client brief and have set some rules 👮‍♂️ 1- Can’t spend more than half a day on these, ideally a couple hours, mimicking the sharp turn around often needed for social content, this includes the “layer recreating” and animating. 2- Less is more. The motion should not distract from the design, but compliment and celebrate it. 3- Don’t sweat the small stuff, it’s gonna be impossible for me to get a pixel perfect recreation in my time constraints, if something isn’t going to work, skip it, or just get as close as I can in the time…. It’s going to be moving anyway, just capture the ✨vibe ✨ And of course, I’ll drop the original in the comments, so you can compare and rip my recreation to shreds 😩 😘✌️ #motiondesign  #animation  #poster #creative  #motiongraphics  #design  #graphic  #graphicdesign

Today, I 'm excited to share this rendered result in Unreal Engine 5. This exercise was undertaken to explore the interactivity between Unreal Engine and Reallusion Character Creator 4. The integration between these two programmes is incredibly smooth, allowing for nearly automatic content creation. The UK has always been ahead of the curve on stop motion. For some reason Europe has always had a home for the medium, first explored in Soviet Russia/Eastern Europe, whereas the US has always treated it as much more niche. The piece below is a perfect example of playing to stop motions strengths, juxtaposing the textured characters and set pieces against the clean, colored Cyc's so prevalent on social media. The effect that is rendered is so engaging as your eye is drawn ever inward towards detail. The exact opposite of corporate friendly CG, that can often be so flat that your eyes glaze over without registering anything. Attentions are short, so it up to the creatives to find new ways to hold folks attention, and I think this piece can really teach us Americans the value that stop motion adds to advertising. Cheers to Joseph Wallace and Co. for such a great piece!

Toon test #2 So here, instead of using a 30fps project, I used a 60fps project, which I think turned out way better (more frames for MHA to work with). The one thing that bothers me a little, is the tongue animation, which if you think about it, since it is done through audio, it doesn't match the toon footage.. hmmm I'm using the "conformed" mesh pipeline to make my ID mesh a little more angular, and used photosketcher to apply a painterly texture to a regular metahuman map.. liked how that turned out. To "toonify" the footage, in fusion, added 2 timespeed nodes, plus a stop motion one. On the first timespeed, set the speed to 2, with interpolation as nearest, on the second, set the speed to .5 (to return it to the same speed, but dropping some frames) also with interpolation nearest. On the stop motion node, I set the sampling variation at .8 and frame repeat at 8. This took a little playing around with to get what I wanted without dropping too much. (depends on your footage, so play around) Next test will be to download the full metahuman, but with hair, etc (but without body and face textures), use the materials from the ID mesh, and see what a full toon metahuman will look like. For body animation, I did some preliminary tests a while ago with video based mocap tools (in this case, Rokoko's single camera mocap gen tool), to put it through the same "toonifying" process, which seemed to work well to give it the same type of look, so maybe you can use some of the others out there

Hi LinkedIn, Following the recent update, the Ballerina was made originally in-place, meaning she moved forward with the root controller. Please try to ignore obvious problems with polishing. Unlike many of my animations this one intended to be perfect on the camera which wasn't and isn't perfect!). The goal is to share what I've done/learned while working on my showreel. You can easily make any animation in-place using layers. The in-place itself isn't perfect too! Needs some tweaks, but I thought it would take time and wouldn't give much! BPY vs. Houdini vs. Houdini/TOPs #b3d #houdini Sorry, I was wrong. Houdini does not need 17 minutes to convert 1500 OBJ; it needs only 14 minutes! Python blender BPY module is also a bit slower, 45sec vs 42sec.

Does anyone know a good place to find great looking fx for Unreal? 3D vdb fx for pulse blasts, explosions, impact destruction of cement or rubble? The ones we are finding in marketplace look too basic. Tips? help? #animation
