I appreciate this point of view, and while I understand the reasonings behind it, I disagree to some extent. If you’ve built genuine, loyal relationships with clients based on trust, professionalism, and mutual understanding, they often want to continue working with you - not just the business you represented. People buy from people. I have worked for 3 agencies & I am yet to meet someone who hasn’t taken clients with them. In this industry, surely we’d be silly to end the relationships you’ve worked hard to nurture, especially when you deeply understand a client’s business. Yes, there’s a big world of potential clients out there, and building new relationships is part of the journey. But cutting ties with those who value your work and have chosen to work with you feels wrong, especially when they’ve followed you for your service rather than solely the company you worked for. So, in my opinion, retaining relationships isn’t necessarily ‘stealing’, it’s literally just carrying on the trust and rapport you’ve spent time building & after all, loyalty goes both ways.

No, I don't, he said ! So what are you getting nervous about? This is pretty standard, specifically when you have several VAT claims in a row. Don't worry about it, we will take care of it. If tax bills are not thought about until a few days before they are due, a higher than expected bill can bring a feeling of 💰Shock (more than imagined) 💰Anger (at the amount HMRC is requesting) 💰Worry (not enough saved) 💰Blame (please do not shoot the messenger🫠) It's all about the mindset and planning.⬇️ 💡The more you earn, the more tax you pay. Dry post alert. Lots of counter arguments being posted recently as to whether business owners should be managing their costs or investing in their businesses right now, with this year having been tough for many. I don't agree that these are mutually exclusive. Having run a small business for over 12 years now, I've made loads of mistakes (I'm sure I will make some more - you shouldn't work for yourself if you're afraid of getting things wrong - and you shouldn't be too proud to admit it if you have), so I am always learning. Business owners should always be managing costs, not just waiting for things to be tough. Yes, this involves identifying wastage and removing costs that don't give a good ROI. You need to make sure your business can afford to run. But it also involves deciding what costs you DO want your business to bear and understanding why. Invest in relevant areas for better ROI. Keeping costs lean, for the right reasons, is good practice, and you may well decide to keep any cost savings in the business, if it aligns with your goals or needs. However, exploring new ways of doing things and deciding to invest in your business for ROI's is good practice too. It's all managing your costs. You may take costs that don't give an acceptable ROI, and divert them to something that will. If you look, you will sometimes find money to invest is already in your business. My main point is - if you're not looking, you don't know. Please don't just leave it to the end of the year or a difficult period. Do it all the time (it took me a few years of to truly learn this). It should be a continual, regular part of your process: ⭐ Interrogating existing costs and ROI ⭐ Exploring new investments and their potential benefits This holds true whether you manage a business with 100 people or more in it, or manage a business that consists only of you. Sometimes things can be very tough, often when not expected, so you should always be focussing on the survival of your business for as long as you need it to - including in the good times. Don't take anything for granted. Consistently work to understand how you can make your business more robust and more profitable. Save costs you don't need, find which ones it will be helpful to increase. If you're prepared for lean times and you're more likely get through them. If you're always improving you'll also make more out of the good times. ✅ Interrogate and understand your own business ✅ Manage your costs ✅ Invest and take calculated risks - use your costs to grow income & profit ✅ Recognise and own mistakes, don't let pride paralyse decision making ✅ Don’t rest on your laurels, take your eyes off the ball or assume anything It all goes hand in hand. #managecosts #investinyourbusiness #ROI
