Mentor vs Business Coach. What’s the right approach for a SME owner? 6. Flexibility and Adaptability Mentoring relationships are inherently flexible and adaptable. Your mentor adjusts their guidance based on your evolving needs and circumstances. As your career progresses, the focus of the relationship can shift, addressing new challenges and opportunities as they arise to help you clarify your objectives. Coaching is more structured, with clear goals and timelines. While your coach can adapt and flex their strategies to your needs, the focus remains on achieving the agreed-upon objectives. They often follow a specific methodology or framework to ensure consistent progress towards those achievements. Example: Your mentor might initially help you with early career decisions and later provide guidance on leadership development as you take on more senior roles. Your coach might then develop a tailored leadership program for you, with specific milestones and performance indicators to track progress over a six-month period. Which would you prefer? An annual review Part one: Some of what I’m proud of: ·     Designed a multiple cohort blended inclusive leadership course for over 500 people, 3 months in duration ·     Re-invented 24 masterclass topics, contents and outputs ·     Transformed the virtual delivery of workshops, masterclasses and coaching ·     Written 200+ video scripts, overseen the production of the videos and incorporated into our digital learning offer ·     Written 300 blogs, posts, comments, insights on cultural intelligence and inclusion ·     Built a talent program for new managers and young professionals ·     Rebuilt our key team assessment tool, Worldprism Teams ·     Contributed to a brand new feature on Country Navigator: Fast Track ·     Worked with 20+ clients to design tailored CQ solutions, blended and digital (And I acknowledge wholeheartedly, the contributions of others in all those projects - collaboration is the key!) Part two: Things I’m less proud of: ·     I still lack CQ awareness in discussions ·     I function poorly with ambiguous situations ·     I can be argumentative just because I love debates ·     There isn’t a scale big enough to measure how time-focused I am! ·     I got my first speeding ticket this year 😞 Great to see there's still learning to be done

This is an interesting look at the world today. In it, Brendon shares "The HR/LD function is now critical for the enterprise, especially considering the massive skills deficit across the workforce at all levels. Corporate L&D needs to be on deck to help close the seams in capability." It's not just about recruitment anymore; it's about nurturing and developing talent from within.
