This is the highest salary I've ever encountered in the data space in the UK... £550,000 as well as quarterly bonuses, stock, etc. This was a couple of years ago so it is has probably increased since then... The CDO actually said - 'I don't know how much I earn'. Crazy right? Needless to say, I knew then the chances of placing that candidate were very, very slim (And I haven't) But it really hit home to me the opportunities that exist within the data space to earn really good money According to several sources if you earn over £60,000 or thereabouts you're in the top 10% of earners in the UK (I don't know if that's true, I thought that was a little low) Then I considered that the average salary for a mid level Data Engineer is between £60,000 - £70,000, where salaries have stagnated over the last 18-months or so That's still someone who's very much an individual contributor, building data pipelines, data warehouses, etc Imagine how far you can elevate your career and earnings if you finessed your business, leadership, and commercial skills as a Data Engineer! 6-figure earnings are fully in reach and achievable if you finesse those skills as well as your technical portfolio in this space... #data #recruitment #analytics #databricks

This is a question I’ve been asked so much recently by budding scientists and engineers alike so I wanted to share some advice 👨🏽‍💻 ❌ If you’re already in the tech sector but want to change roles, aim to work your way up in your current business and try to ask for opportunities to get involved in projects that will get you closer to your goal 3 ways to upskill whilst you’re doing so could involve… 📊Developing your ML skills 🧪Learning advanced experimentation 🎓Taking on a PT Masters ✅ On the other hand if you have no relevant tech or career experience a Master’s can be a really great way to transition ⚖️ The con’s however when applying for Junior Data Science roles at Masters level is increased competition, and in a sea of 500+ applicants it’s very hard to stand out 📈 If you have the opportunity to secure a lower level role e.g Analyst in the Tech space without an MSc (especially with a well respected organisation) that experience makes you look a lot more attractive to a potential employer and can be a gateway into the role you truly want within Data 📚To those already completing study, really figure out your path of focus, Network network, network and make sure your academic projects relate to real business problems This will allow you to differentiate yourself in a challenging market 👏🏼

💡 Tip of the day for Data professionals looking to land a new role 💡 If you want to stand out to recruiters and have worked in a consultancy role as a Data Engineer, Data Analyst etc.. Update the role title to include the role, e.g. "Data Engineer Consultant" When recruiters search for candidates, often we have "years of experience" requirements from our clients. If you worked at a consultancy as a Data professional for X amount of years, but your title for that role is "Consultant at X company", LinkedIn will not include that time as experience in the role, making it harder for recruiters to find you. I have seen a lot of candidates whose experience reflects as much less than it is in reality due to simply not specifying their role at a consultancy in their job title. 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝗠𝗮𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗘𝗻𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗿 – 𝗗𝗶𝗳𝗳𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗹𝘀 𝗕𝗿𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗹/𝗟𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗻 𝗨𝗽 𝘁𝗼 £𝟭𝟬𝟬𝗸 ▪ Revenue-generating AI start-up. ▪ Unique product with AI at its core. ▪ Recently raised multi-million ££ funding to support the next growth phase. Bristol is crying out for more AI companies so I’m buzzing to be supporting the latest player in this space. I’ve got two roles, one of which is more research based so I’m looking to speak with Machine Learning Engineers and Researchers with a solid understanding of diffusion models. The ML Engineer needs to have strong production experience and come from an image-based background. Diffusion model experience is the icing on the cake, but the client is aware there’s a limited number of people who will have experience taking these into production. Essentially, if the researcher has the required diffusion model expertise, then it’s less important for the engineer. There is a world whereby we can hire 2 x ML Engineers in place of a researcher, so long as the diffusion model experience is covered. 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲: ▪ 0-1 experience is preferred – failing that, experience within an AI startup and the ability to wear many hats. ▪ Strong computer vision background, ideally diffusion models or transformers at the very least. ▪ ML production, pipeline and infrastructure (design and build). ▪ Understanding of MLOps principles. The engineer position needs to be at the senior level, but the researcher is more flexible. As an ML Engineer, you’ll essentially be the subject matter expert, so you’ll need experience in designing and building ML systems and infrastructure from scratch. This could in time turn into a leadership position depending on your career aspirations but it’s not a deal breaker if you want to remain an IC. The preference is to build the team in Bristol but there is scope for those in London to apply as long as you’re happy with monthly travel to Bristol. If you’re based in Bristol, then it will be 3 x days a week in the office. After taking on a handful of opportunities in the Data space there is one surprising area I seem to be advising clients on the most Job titles 🤯 In a lot of cases organisations are giving titles that simply don’t reflect the roles responsibilities Not only is this a huge issue when you’re carrying out your own internal searches It’s a massive problem for companies seeking direct applicants when the talent searching for opportunities won’t even discover your job ad… Analytics Engineer Data Science Officer Back End Engineer Senior Insight Analyst They all scream ambiguity The craziest thing is, some of the opportunities are often the first of their kind and when being advertised are coming with incredibly vague descriptions For example, if you’re titling a role an AI Engineer just because it sounds more exciting, when in actual fact the description reads Machine Learning Engineer or Senior Data Scientist that can have a huge impact on the number of relevant applicants you’ll see and also how you’re perceived as a business Even worse, female talent are actually 38% less likely to be interested in a role if it mentions guru, champion or genius 👀 Without getting the relevant advice from agencies or D&A specialists it can be really damaging to your hiring process and impact speed to hire and attraction massively It’s important now more than ever that if you are using an agency that they really consult with you around exactly what it is you need before you go out to market Without case studies from the start-ups, SME’s and larger enterprises that are also hiring similar talent and genuine advice about how to find niche talent, Data Leaders are definitely becoming frustrated at the time taken to review and even interview the wrong candidate #datajobtitles
