While the TCPA fully supports the government’s ambition to build more new homes more quickly, this must not lead to the creation of homes and places that will entrench problems for the future. As part of the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government proposed reforms to national #planning policy published earlier this week, revisions to the standard method, used as the starting point for calculating housing need, have been published which align with #Labour’s ambitious plans to deliver 1.5 million #newhomes within the next parliamentary period. Lancaster City Council have shared bold new plans to provide 135 new council homes on the site of the former Skerton High School in Lancaster have been given the green light. The design proposals reimagine the former school site in a boldly presented scheme of modern apartments and housing that reflect the heritage of the area. Derbyshire County Council are consulting on the future of design services for Disabled Facilities Grants (DFGs). Due to financial pressures, such as demand rising, unprecedented inflation and costs rising for energy and materials. The council are considering three options: 1. 'For us to continue our design and procurement work, but to obtain full funding from the district and borough councils who are the recipients of the grant for all the discretionary services and support that is provided.' 2. 'For us to continue our design and procurement services but only supporting our statutory project work, ending all discretionary work for district and borough councils.' 3. 'For us to end our design and procurement work, with our statutory project work being delivered by external providers.' The consultation seeks public input on these options to ensure sustainable support for independent living.
