It was a fantastic interview. Jane spoke candidly about the challenges facing the independent production sector, driven by industry headwinds and shifts in commissioning trends. She highlighted how UK producers could adapt by: 1. Embracing agility and resetting spending expectations. 2. Focusing on creating long-running, mainstream shows. 3. Understanding Gen Z and their viewing habits. 4. Harnessing the potential of AI. Jane also observed that PSBs are taking more risks in commissioning bold, innovative shows, while streamers have shifted towards safer bets—seeking longevity and audience engagement through longer-running, low-risk series that tap into nostalgic genres, citing examples like Friends, Suits, and The Resident.
