NHS Elective Care Conference North: Transforming Planned Care 2024

The NHS is accelerating the delivery of operations and other non-urgent services as part of an £8.1 billion plan to help the health service recover all patient services following the intense winter wave of COVID. NHS England

The new elective recovery tech fund has been established to support organisations across the NHS in England to accelerate the uptake of digitally supported care and offer it to more patients. The focus is on supporting people having surgery and in need of specialist advice.

Up to £250 million has been made available to Integrated Care Systems in this financial year. The fund is intended to improve patients' experience and health outcomes across planned care, or elective, pathways. This funding is part of a £700 million Targeted Investment Fund the purpose of which is to speed up elective recovery and tackle waiting lists.

Our upcoming virtual conference will aim to look under the hood of this huge investment and strategy and identify some key challenges and practical insights that have been identified over recent months.

In support of the NHS, we provide fully funded and CPD accredited attendance to all relevant NHS based senior managers and leaders.

Our virtual events offer a high-value event experience that can be utilised between clinical duties and offer key benefits including:

Listen to a panel of expert NHS based leaders share best practices and policy change
    Meet the supplier sessions
Opportunity to ask key questions and share insights
Take away content and slides to share with the team and utilise in post-event
    Gain CPD

    What is Genomics?

Genomics is the study of the body’s genes, their functions and their influence on the growth, development and working of the body – using a variety of techniques to look at the body’s DNA and associated compounds. NHS ENGLAND

As a country, the UK is considered a leader in Genomics. However, there is still little known about the role of Genomics and its powerful uses across the healthcare system. Our upcoming conference services aim to shed some light on this area and provide clear guidance and practical insights for sector professionals.

Health Education England is very much leading the way in Genomics education and has developed a Genomics Education Programme which aims to deliver the learning and development necessary to enable both current and future NHS professionals to harness the power of genomic medicine for patient benefits.

The NHS Long Term Plan also outlined a strategic focus on using and developing Genomics across the country. These plans include:

To be the first national healthcare system to offer whole genome sequencing as part of routine care.
To sequence 500,000 whole genomes by 2023/24 and help transform healthcare for maximum patient benefit, including for all children with cancer or children who are seriously ill with a likely genetic disorder.
Linking and correlating genomic data to help provide new treatments and diagnostic approaches and help patients make informed decisions about their care.

NHS Population Health Management Conference South 2024

Population Health is an approach that aims to improve physical and mental health outcomes, promote wellbeing, and reduce health inequalities across an entire population.

A relatively new approach called Population Health Management (PHM) is helping the NHS understand our current, and predict, our future health and care needs so actions can be made to tailor better care and support to individuals, design more joined-up and sustainable health and care services and make better use of public resources.

PHM is a partnership approach across the NHS and other public services including councils, the public, schools, fire service, voluntary sector, housing associations, social services, and police. All have a role to play in addressing the interdependent issues that affect people’s health and wellbeing.

For example, adults and children who live in cold, damp housing may be more likely to develop respiratory problems over the next 20 years because their lungs are affected by the mould spores in their homes. If we improved their housing now, by working with partners such as local councils and housing associations, they may not end up with various health conditions in the future which can result in poor quality of life (conditions like asthma, chest infections, and other respiratory problems) and could avoid the need for multiple health and care services.

Implementing population health management services is a key focus within the NHS long term plan and is supporting ICSs’ to understand the areas of greatest health need and match NHS services to meet them. These solutions are becoming increasingly sophisticated in identifying groups of people who are at risk of adverse health outcomes and predicting which individuals are most likely to benefit from different health and care interventions, as well as highlighting health inequaliti

Virtual wards allow patients to get the care they need at home safely and conveniently, rather than being in hospital. NHS England and Improvement

Virtual wards have been set up and used in the UK for some time now, but the recent Covid-19 pandemic significantly accelerated the awareness and use of virtual wards across the UK. New research and pilots have been launched and our upcoming conference aims to showcase key findings and insights since their conception.

Throughout the recent pandemic, virtual wards were used in a number of ways to help to manage demand, and ultimately keep both NHS staff and patients safe from potential infection. Providing care in appropriate places, reducing infection transmission, and shortening the length of hospitals stay is just a few examples of how virtual wards helped to underpin the fight against covid-19.

Our upcoming conference will provide a timely platform for NHS managers and leaders to meet virtually and share key insights, while listening to an expert panel of guest speakers from across NHS and industry.

The Convenzis Integrating Health and Social Care conference series provides a though provoking platform for ICS leaders to meet up, share practical insights and exchange knowledge with peers across the UK. The series is well followed, and we are excited to continue the journey.

Integrated care is about giving people the support they need, joining up across local councils, the NHS, and other partners. It removes traditional divisions between hospitals and family doctors, between physical and mental health, and between NHS and council services.

ICSs (integrated care systems) are seen by NHS leaders as the future of health and care integration in England. The NHS Long Term Plan and now the Government’s white paper on health and care reform both place ICSs at the heart of the NHS.

Our upcoming event will provide NHS healthcare leaders from across primary, social and secondary care sectors with a secure and high-value platform to discuss the key challenges and benefits of the integrated care strategy.
The Integrated Care Summit North: Challenges and best practice 2024 Key Subjects

The latest Government-led health and social care White Paper is based on 3 core areas of improvement:

    Working together and supporting integration
    Reducing bureaucracy
Improving accountability and enhancing public confidence

Additional measures include a range of specific and targeted proposals relating to social care, public health, and quality and safety.

Below you can find details of our next event in the series, we hope to see you there.

Urgent and Emergency Care (UEC) services perform a critical role in keeping the population healthy. The NHS responds to more than 110 million urgent calls or visits every year, therefore, it is essential that the system works effectively.

The Transformation of urgent and emergency care: models of care and measurement paper was published in late 2020 and focused on 6 core areas of improvement including Changing behaviours and the role of NHS 111, optimising ambulance performance and reducing wider service pressures, improving access, capacity and capability of urgent care centres and measuring performance.

Following this, recommendations from a Clinically led Review of NHS Access Standards for urgent and emergency care were published, alongside the strategy for transforming urgent and emergency care provision. The review focused on the urgent and emergency care standards. Our upcoming virtual conference session aims to discuss the urgent care indicators and how to measure performance in a transformed system.

Join us as we explore these new proposed changes and share examples of innovation and best practices from across the UK.

Our upcoming event will be the starting point of a series of virtual and potentially in-person events that are free for the NHS and the wider healthcare ecosystem to utilise.

In support of the NHS, all Convenzis events are complimentary, and CPD accredited. If you are an NHS senior manager and lead interested in Genomics and its potential uses, please get in touch to

“Medicines optimisation is about helping people to get the best outcomes from their medicines. It describes systems and processes used by staff, working in health and social care, which ensure that people receive the best possible care with medicines.” Health Education England

In March 2021 the NHS published the Network Contract Directed Enhanced Service Structured medication reviews and medicines optimisation guidance, this document outlines changes to the delivery of a structured medication review. PCNs must proactively consider all aspects of this guidance when planning, implementing and delivering structured medication reviews (SMR)

SMRs are designed to be a thorough clinical review of a patient’s medicines and detailed aspects of their health. They are delivered by aiding shared decision-making conversations with patients aimed at ensuring that their medication is working well for them.

The Convenzis NHS Medications Optimisation Virtual Conference aims to share key insights and updates following these forward-thinking initiatives and central guidance.

We will explore the “What has worked” and the “What hasn’t” and enable delegates to take part in key Q&A sessions with our panel of guest speakers from across industry and the NHS.

NHS Population Health Management Conference North 2024

These solutions are becoming increasingly sophisticated in identifying groups of people who are at risk of adverse health outcomes and predicting which individuals are most likely to benefit from different health and care interventions, as well as highlighting health inequalities.

Cancer affects us all. Survival in England is at a record high and patients’ experience of treatment and care has never been higher, but we won’t stop there. We want every person with cancer to have the very best diagnosis, treatment and care. NHS England & Improvement

Around 40,000 fewer people than normal started cancer treatment in the UK last year. The UK’s NHS currently has more than 4·6 million people on waiting lists for surgery and 300 000 people have been on hold for more than 12 months—a wait time that is 100-times higher than before the pandemic.

Our upcoming conference will open the debate on how the NHS is planning to lean on new models of delivery and innovation to help manage the current treatment backlogs and improve outcomes on a national scale.

Here are a few examples of the amazing work already being done across the UK oncology sector:

The Convenzis Outpatient Transformation Conference provides secondary care leaders with some direction and insight into the NHS Outpatient Transformation Programme. The event will provide high value, policy led presentations from sector-leading experts, meet the supplier sessions, networking opportunities and interactive Q&A.

“Outpatient services currently cause a good deal of inconvenience to patients and sometimes fail to provide care that is as good as it could be. We would therefore welcome a considered re-think of how they are delivered…” The Patients Association

The Covid-19 outbreak has provided a springboard for innovation and technology advancements across the NHS Estate, from electronic records and referrals to devices that patients can wear to help to track their health. Technology is helping transform the way hospitals and community services care for patients.

The number of outpatient visits in England has doubled to 94 million in the past decade; 20 per cent of potential appointments are cancelled or reported as did not attend, costs have spiralled to £8 billion per year and appointments generate 4,700 million kg of carbon emissions.

Following the Covid outbreak, the NHS Long Term Plan ambition to avoid unnecessary face to face outpatient attendances has become an urgent imperative, these targets include:

Removing the need for up to a third of hospital outpatient attendances a year by 2023/24
Avoiding up to £1.1bn of additional expenditure.
And ensuring all patients can access digital outpatient care.

Covid-19 has provided a springboard for innovation delivery across the NHS, we have seen unprecedented scale-up of services such as remote consulting, interoperability, the use of data, and of course the use of artificial intelligence.

However, this period of rapid scale-up posed its own challenges for patients and staff across the country. While technologies were rolled out with impressive speed, some aspects of implementation, such as evaluation, co-design, and customisation will necessarily have been a shortcut, and will need revisiting after the emergency phase of the pandemic is over.

Following several surveys conducted by the Health Foundation, it was found that NHS staff surveyed highlighted the issues of ensuring adequate IT and equipment and sufficient staffing as among the top challenges for benefiting fully from recent technological progress.

Age is sometimes cited as a factor affecting attitudes to technology and this was apparent in public surveys conducted with a larger proportion of younger people reporting positive experiences than the population as a whole, and a slightly larger proportion of those age 55 and older reporting negative experiences.

Rapid Diagnostic Centres (RDCs): Rapid Diagnostic Centres (RDCs) are designed to speed up cancer diagnosis and support the NHS ambitions to achieve earlier diagnosis, with improved patient experience, for all patients with cancer symptoms or suspicious results.

The NHS Screening Programme: A £130 million national Radiotherapy Modernisation Fund has delivered the largest radiotherapy upgrade programme in 15 years. We have provided funding to replace or upgrade over 80 radiotherapy machines so that patients can have access to sustainable high-quality modern radiotherapy treat

If you are interested in the redesign and restructure of NHS Outpatient services and would like a complimentary pass, please get in touch today to reserve your place.
