“Give Caroline, or CT as she is affectionately known, any business challenge and she will always find a way to solve it. Resourceful, energetic and highly passionate — CT single-handedly built SUSE’s first customer marketing team, gave it a clear purpose and inspired a newly-formed team to exceed its goals. What may surprise some in her illustrious “head of customer marketing” stint is that she is an even more accomplished communications pro - having dramatically grown Rancher’s mindshare in her previous role leading PR. I count myself very lucky to have welcomed CT to my team when Rancher was acquired by SUSE. Even luckier to have worked with someone whose will to succeed (even in areas completely new to her) is second to none. But luckiest to have met this self proclaimed “tough northerner” whose heart is golden and wit razor sharp. There is no one quite like CT and I hope our paths will soon cross again. Ta!”

We are less than a week away from #ConnectedBritain and I'm delighted to be chairing a session on the role of partnerships in tackling digital exclusion. Shockingly, despite good mobile & full-fibre coverage and device penetration & adoption, the UK is still struggling with digital inclusivity. The 2023 Consumer Digital Index recorded 7.5 million people, or 18% of UK adults, as lacking the essential digital skills that are needed for the workplace, and the level of digital understanding (which is much more than being able to stream TikTok videos) drops even further when you survey only young people. We've a fabulous panel with experience from across the digital inclusion jigsaw of infrastructure, access, skills and service delivery to help us tackle the issue. They will be debating whether we need a fundamental systemic change in the way we address digital inclusion and how partnerships are key to achieving successful results. Journos in my network: I read a report from MuckRack surveying the state of journalism in 2024. It has a US focus but I suspect the findings apply as much in the UK; would you agree? - About one-third of journalists express concerns about lack of funding and trust in journalism, consistent with last year's findings. - More than one-third report layoffs or buyouts, with 30% turning to LinkedIn for job opportunities. - 64% work over 40 hours weekly, with 79% working after hours. - Nearly a quarter produce 11 or more stories weekly, and about one in four primarily publish in legacy media, despite the digital shift. https://lnkd.in/eys6rqjH

What’s driving the evolution of brand purpose? 🌏 🧒 ❤️ ✊ Last week we hosted a thought provoking roundtable with comms leaders across private, public, and non-profit sectors, who shared their experiences and views of a rapidly changing landscape. There's only so much you can cover in an hour, but some of the key takeaways: - We're moving from purpose vs profit > to purpose with profit - Purpose can be a north star, but it must be anchored to something more than the end goal, such as values - Australia once led on progressive issues, but not so much anymore - Society's rage presents an opportunity for brands to educate and unite - There is strength in numbers when tackling sensitive issues - Purpose is evolving from planet to people-first - Youth are demanding rapid change from inside and out - There's a cost of not investing in purpose The findings will feed into Havas Red's global Purpose white paper, coming out in October.
