This includes AI models in Azure AI Studio, which facilitate the integration and analysis of diverse medical data types such as imaging, genomics, and clinical records. Additionally, Microsoft Fabric enhances healthcare data solutions, allowing organizations to harmonize various datasets and perform care management analytics. The healthcare agent service in Copilot Studio automates tasks like appointment scheduling, while an AI-driven nursing workflow solution streamlines documentation, ultimately improving patient care and operational efficiency.

A recent discussion with a potential B2B partner highlighted to me a different viewpoint when looking at the problem digital health product interoperability. Specifically how to make digital health products 'functionally' interoperable across different countries and local B2B partners. Lots of attention is going into data interoperability to figure out how different data streams can be combined in an efficient manner. Its no surprise why, the push to personalise patient treatments (including the use of AI / ML supported tools) relies on the ability to cross analyse discrete patient data sets from different sources. Peach Health Asia's role in commercialising partner digital health products across different channels gives us a unique opportunity to explore setting up commercial partnerships with varied B2B partners with different needs, systems and capabilities. Rather than look at this as a 'customisation' exercise doing this cost-efficiently is more an interoperability question tied to how versatile a product is in being deployed under different scenarios. One of the key parameters to address this challenge is the modularity of the product and whether its features be turned off and on without disrupting the product functionality. It isn't something that is top of mind for digital health developers when creating their products, products are usually designed for a single product-market fit. However in the international market no countries market and 'market opportunities' are exactly the same. The article below covers some of the solutions needed to deal with this challenge, such as setting up functions in microservices to enable modulatory and using more widely used API's. It is incredibly difficult and costly to customise a digital health product for every new market or opportunity, especially when dealing with products where a class I or II SaMD registration limits the ability to modify a product once it is approved. Don't forget going international also comes served with the whole data interoperability challenge, which represents another issue that needs to be sorted out when exploring bringing a digital health product into SE Asia.

Having worked with various governments on their digital health strategies I would posit that this is a great blueprint for any national government to adopt with regards to the application of AI to Universal Health Care systems. More than ever AI presents a unique opportunity for Low and Middle Income countries.

Short funding cycles and the lack of a bi-partisan approach to digital transformation play havoc with our health system and demonstrate a lack of understanding of what is required to deliver a digital transformation in healthcare. Harriet Grayson for the Health Services Daily #healthequity Three year funding cycle for LHDs would allow for better service planning and delivery compared to the current 12-month cycle, according to Sally Pearce, acting chair of the Far West LHD board. Appearing at the NSW Special Commission into Healthcare Funding, Ms Pearce said the timeframe and stringent limitations attached to existing funding models restricted LHDs’ capacity to “go out and make change” for their communities. At the same time, echoing several previous Inquiry witnesses such as Western NSW LHD CEO Mark Spittal, Ms Pearce highlighted the inequitable nature of NSW Health’s funding allocations to LHDs that disadvantaged rural and regional LHDs in several ways, including through the provision or lack thereof of additional “growth funding”.

Always a pleasure to see my old colleague and friend Rajesh Aggarwal MD PhD FRCS FACS from Jefferson Health. Especially when we can get on stage during Future Health at BMJ Group and talk digital health implementation. Our talk today was titled ‘Digital Transformation at scale: how to prioritise users in systems implementation’. We highlighted: 🟢 Design thinking encourages #empathy and user centricity - in the case of healthcare it is both patient AND clinician. 🟢 Design thinking can be used to build digital health programs. We used it to build telehealth by thinking through what our community and patients needed. Although I admitted on stage that we did not intend to use design thinking frameworks - it happened because of the culture at Jefferson Health. Happy accident. 🟢Getting the right, diverse group of stakeholders in a room can come up with impactful solutions. 🟢The #patient journey has multiple entry points for #innovation. What you build has to be relevant to your end user. 🟢Clinical leaders building tech for healthcare are capable of incredible innovations. In recent years, there’s been a surge in organisations creating or refreshing their Healthcare (Clinical) Governance Frameworks, reflecting their growing importance in health technologies. These frameworks are no longer static documents but dynamic tools that shape how teams work and improve outcomes 🌟 For a framework to resonate, they need these three qualities: 🩷 Memorable 🩵 Connected 💚 Actionable While memorability lays the foundation, connection is what truly brings a framework to life. A connected governance framework aligns with the values, mission, and culture of the organisation while meeting the needs of its teams and customers. It needs to be authentic - an extension of the organisation’s identity rather than an external set of rules ✅ Creating a ‘connected’ framework requires collaboration. Teams and customers (patients, consumers, clients, carers) must be part of the development or review process so that their needs and aspirations are reflected. Without this, principles can feel disconnected, won’t resonate and struggle to gain traction🤝 Connection also means understanding the organisation’s context: its culture, leadership vision, and desired outcomes. In healthcare, this revolves around improved health and care outcomes and experiences, though how these are pursued varies. A connected framework aligns with the unique journey each organisation takes to achieve its goals 🛣️ When frameworks are connected, they are easier to implement. Teams naturally embed principles of safety, quality, and continuous improvement into their work when they can relate the outcome to their roles – whether they are providing clinical care or not 🫥 This connection is why I prefer the term “healthcare governance” over “clinical governance.” For teams outside clinical care, such as in technology or operations, “clinical” can feel exclusive. “Healthcare Governance,” however, resonates more broadly, promoting a shared ownership and inclusion across the health and care ecosystem 🪐 Ultimately, connection creates momentum. When people see themselves reflected in a framework, they are much more likely to believe in it and live by it. Honoured to be part of the #NHS 10 Year Plan Working Group on Data and Technology. I hope to be able to bring some actionable plans for the NHS to make best use of #HealthData and #HealthAI for patients, NHS institutions, Innovation and UK society. 10 Years is a long time; there are many opportunities and this recognises the need for change on how the NHS handles digital infrastructure as common platforms for delivering care but harnessing national assets. Common themes that keep coming up: 🌟Data interoperability 🌟Improved digital and data standards 🌟Flexible digital procurements 🌟Optimisation of NHS productivity for staff 🌟Community self-care through data 🌟Patient accessibility and autonomy 🌟Transparency Can't mention anything without AI! Definitely opportunities there, and I personally believe that AI benefits will only accrue and scale when there underlying foundations of Data and Tech is of adequate quality. ⏩️ excellent review! maybe we need to reneame it “from raw data to evidence (#RWE)” in our ecosystem? 🔂 maybe we need to revisit the value of such data for public health in light of financial implications described in other settings? 🆓 nothing is for free but maybe better utilizing the abundance of already available data could dramatically reduce costs - rendering healthcare delivery as well as R&D much more efficient! 🔀 Full disclosure: no affiliation!
