💥 Today we officially announce our collaboration with the University of Southampton’s School of Cancer Sciences! 🤝 The partnership combines Evariste’s AI modelling capabilities with Southampton’s clinical data to generate one of the largest-known transcriptomic datasets in oesophageal adenocarcinoma (OAC). 💊 OAC is a cancer with incredibly limited therapeutic options, and has no targeted therapies as part of the current standard of care. We have a 99.6% failure rate in drug development for neurodegenerative disease. The current model is broken and needs changing. The FDA Modernisation Act 2.0 provides alternatives to existing clinical models to be used as supporting evidence. An iPSC platform if stratified across age, disease mutation, sex and ethnicity would be deployed before in-vivo animal and human testing and would be sized as required to provide statistical credible data for efficacy and approval. the building and validation of this model could achieve the following: 1. Size the addressable opportunity for the treatment ie. What disease mutations will have a positive response given model is stratified for sporadic Alzheimer’s disease. 2. Screen both current and historic compounds, small molecules, therapies etc at scale and in a high throughput environment. AND HERE IS THE REAL KICKER 3. You could power up the number of iPSC patient lines to reduce the number of patients needed to be recruited into a clinical trial BENEFITS Save time, save money, understand sooner patient and public health impact and IMPORTANTLY, improve patient outcomes. I am incredibly proud to announce that we have been awarded a £1.6M project from Innovate UK’s Biomedical Catalyst 2023 Round 2: Industry-led R&D 🙌 This application took a tremendous amount of effort, including working well into the early hours of many mornings to perfect the initial submission and cancelling leave over Christmas to prepare for the interview stage. Innovate UK grants (rightly!) require significant work; the application is scrutinised by five experienced assessors from various areas across Life Sciences. The next-stage interview is then attended by up to ten other people, with our panel including professionals from the NHS, academia, and CDMOs, among others. With a pot of £17.8M, and average project cost at £415,191, only 30 of the 358 applications could be funded 💰 . It is therefore truly gratifying to have so many experts agree that the cause we are developing solutions for is important and worthy of this substantial investment ✊ We do not take this funding lightly and will work tirelessly to ensure the success of our exciting project. ARIZ is very pleased to announce the first phase in a collaboration with the UK's Medical Research Council's Nucleic Acid Therapeutics Accelerator (NATA) to fund early stage development of nucleic acid therapy (NAT) drug candidates for novel gene targets with strong genetic associations to leading cancers. Opportunity to co-design and pilot CLEAR’s AI-powered clinical notes summary tool   The National CLEAR Programme is delighted to be announcing the launch of a seven-month AI pilot which is open to seven NHS trusts across England.   It follows the programme’s development of a new clinically-designed AI powered patient consultation summary tool which can transform workforce productivity enabling more time for patients.   Expressions of interest are now being sought for the pilot which offers seven NHS trusts (one per region) to become early adopters and co-designers of the tool within pre-operative assessment (anaesthetics).    Two webinars providing further information are being held on Wednesday 29 May and Tuesday 4 June 2024. “[Liverpool] has a long history with tropical medicine and is now home to one of the largest biotech clusters in Europe.” Great piece in The Observer yesterday about the ambitions of the Liverpool City Region in life sciences, infectious disease research and vaccine development. Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine and the LSTM-led iiCON: Infection Innovation Consortium both feature in the piece, and are key partners in the region’s plans to leverage £800m in investment over the next 10 years and to create 8000 jobs. The Observer cite the £10m high-containment Category Three robotic laboratories which will be built to support innovative infection R&D activity at LSTM and iiCON as just one example of the major scientific initiatives in development within the region.
