HTZ Communications manages Critical communications EU FEDER funding for the southern Spanish region of Andalusia enabled SANDETEL to purchase HTZ Communications to update their public safety networks. In a drive to improve critical communications, local agent SANDETEL, who manages public networks across the region, will use HTZ Communications to support Digital Mobile Radio (DMR) network planning and optimisation. Initially, they will assess network coverage across the region by importing the existing network and drive test measures, identifying not-spots and analysing DMR coverage on a surface area and point-to-point basis. Later, HTZ will be used to expand and optimise these networks by leveraging the automated frequency assignment function. The team will analyse and mitigate the impact of network interference. DMR is the chosen technology for many emergency service providers in the region, covering fire, police, ambulance and other key services. Telefonica, Digi cement partnership with 16-year deal Telefonica agreed to continue sharing its network infrastructure with Digi Communications’ Spanish subsidiary for the next 16 years, extending the pair’s existing contract that expires in January 2025. In an announcement, Telefonica explained it will extend its provision of national roaming and RAN sharing services for Digi, while the partners’ fixed broadband wholesale agreement also stretched to an additional ten years. Telefonica said the deal consolidates a “successful and trusting relationship” while helping it sustain a “long-term revenue stream”. Telefonica added the arrangement reflects the “superior quality” of its national network infrastructure and “the confidence it generates in its ability to deliver high quality services over that infrastructure”. Further, Telefonica said the deal enables Digi to benefit from “efficient and cost-effective use of its new spectrum assets”. Digi agreed to purchase sets of blocks of frequencies in the 1,800MHz, 2,100MHz and 3,500MHz bands from Masmovil for a total of €120 million last December, as part of latter’s push to get its merger with Orange approved. In a separate, related statement, Digi explained the renewed partnership will allow it to execute an “efficient and timely transition of its mobile telephony business in Spain from an MVNO to MNO and to roll-out its own mobile network”.

"There's no such thing as 5G" - a real developer speaks For all telecom people excited about #5G SA and all people excited about #6G watch/listen to this. I start it where Tim Panton talks with Alan Quayle and Giovanni Tarone about using 5G for his racing driver training project. Amazing what the radio has achieved since Tim built 2G base stations himself. "It’s all the stuff behind the radio that is the problem!" It is noted this is before 5G SA has been deployed but this is the world everybody outside #telecom lives in. The provocative question with the current state of the industry is when 5G SA will be fully deployed and whether that will be before 6G is touted to start? We are keen to fix 5-10 years from now, we need to fix it today. Listen to his real-world experience as a developer and consider how the network can materially help today and in the future. The good thing here is the place of deployment is constrained - a racing track. 🔊Bridging the Digital Divide The Gigabit Infrastructure Act (GIA), entered into force on 11 May 2024 and will be fully applicable in November 2025. It is aimed at accelerating the rollout of very high-capacity networks (VHCNs) such as 5G and fibre optics across Europe. The GIA encourages rapid expansion of telecommunications infrastructure, which in turn relies on accurate and up-to-date mapping of existing assets such as poles, ducts, and street cabinets. This is an industry sector where AI has an overwhelmingly positive role to play. ai mapit has the capability to rapidly and cost-effectively generate up to date inventories of roadside infrastructure enabling telecoms companies to plan and execute their network expansions efficiently.
