Updates

  • We need urgent action on hunger in the UK. People are turning to food banks because they don’t have enough money to live on. 💚 But we know that we can end hunger together. And that’s why we look a little different now. We’ve been working with food banks and people with experience of hardship to build a more accessible brand, to make sure everyone seeking support can get the help they need. These changes help us be clearer about the solutions that will ensure no one needs a food bank to survive. We know that a future without food banks is possible, and we all have a part to play. • Food banks are here for people going through the toughest times this winter. 💚 A warm welcome and the offer of a cuppa can mean a lot when you’re finding it hard to get by. Food banks provide emergency food – but they also connect people to the right support for things like mental health, housing or social security, so people are less likely to need the food bank again. Most of all, food banks give people back hope. We want to say a big thank you to the players of People's Postcode Lottery, who are helping us make sure food banks can provide emergency food and compassionate support to everyone who needs it this Christmas.

    • Two food bank staff, a man and a woman, chatting in the food bank warehouse. They're both wearing green food bank fleeces, and in the background there are lots of crates on the shelves.
    • Food bank staff, sitting around a table drinking cups of tea. One of the women is holding a pack of biscuits and offering them out to the other staff members around the table.
  • Christmas is all about giving – and our friends at Morrisons have certainly got into the spirit! 🎄💚 The Morrisons Foundation are matching every donation that customers make to us through the Morrisons groceries website in December. 🙌 This incredible support will help make sure that food banks can continue to provide a warm welcome, emergency food and compassionate support this winter. We want to say a BIG thank you to Morrisons and every single Morrisons customer who donates this December. Together, we CAN end hunger in the UK.

  • We want to say a BIG thank you to Tesco and their customers for supporting us with the Winter Food Collection this week! 💚 We were blown away by the generosity of people who donated to the collection. Every item that was donated will go towards supporting people facing hunger and hardship this winter. It was also incredible to see the compassion and dedication of volunteers up and down the country who made sure the collection ran smoothly. And, of course, the collection wouldn’t even be possible without our partners at Tesco. This year, Tesco went above and beyond to… 🛍️ Make sure food banks got the items they needed most with pre-packed donation bags 🖥️ Raise more donations through round-up at till 🍪 And Tesco are giving us a donation for every gingerbread product sold up to Christmas. Together with partners like Tesco, we know we can end hunger in the UK.

  • When you donate food to the Tesco Winter Food Collection, you’re also donating data to people facing hardship and struggling to afford their phone bills. 📱💚 For every meal donated to the collection, our friends at Tesco Mobile will donate a byte of data. This support is vital - not having access to the internet makes it much harder for people to find help and information, book appointments, apply for jobs and stay in touch with family and friends. Tesco Mobile have also donated tablets, mobile WiFi and SIMs to food banks themselves to help keep food banks connected. We want to say a big thank you to Tesco Mobile for their donation. 👏

  • This week is the Tesco Winter Food Collection! At EVERY Tesco store across the UK, you can donate food and other essential items to your local food bank or community charity. Food banks urgently need donations ahead of what will be a very busy winter, so if you can, please head to your nearest Tesco to donate. 👀 Keep your eyes peeled for pre-packed donation bags in stores. Each bag is filled with the items your local food bank needs most to make it easier to donate. And if you’re an online shopper, you can still help food banks by adding a donation after you check-out! 🖥️🛒 Last year, the collection raised over 2 million meals for food banks in our community and FareShare UK charities. This year, we’re hoping to raise even more donations of food and other essentials! Thank you for your support. 💚

  • Food banks in our community provided over 1.4 MILLION emergency food parcels in just 6 months. This is 69% higher than the same period 5 years ago. 📈 Over 500,000 of these food parcels were also for children. These are stark statistics. It’s not right that so many people are having to turn to food banks because they can’t afford the essentials. But there is hope. We know we can turn the tide on hunger in the UK. 💚 📢 We’re calling on the UK government to take action to protect people from hunger and hardship. We need to see a plan for how the government will end the need for emergency food – and this plan must include making sure social security payments at least cover the cost of essentials, like food and bills.
