Our Chair, Julie Thallon, spoke to BBC London yesterday on the findings from the BMA's investigation into unfulfilled doctors shifts. Shared decision-making and patient partnership cannot be achieved when staff are inadequately resourced and supported. https://lnkd.in/e5HWRyg7

Listening to patients, speaking up for change.
About us
The Patients Association is a national independent health and social care charity who believes that everyone has the right to receive the very best care when they need it most. Today we remain the only national campaigning charity covering all of health and social care, that also works directly with patients, and we're pretty proud of that fact. When patients, service users and their families need help, we ensure they get it by providing advice, support and guidance. Through our helpline, we are able to deliver practical advice and guidance to people every single day. Crucially, the information we confidentially collect from our helpline means we are uniquely placed to devise research and projects in the areas where they are needed the most. We also work with a wide range of stakeholders to tackle the biggest issues facing patients today. Now in our sixth decade, patients continue to be at the forefront of everything we do and we regularly hold public consultations and facilitate meetings, as well as encouraging external bodies to improve patient involvement through the use of focus groups and surveys. To maintain its independence, we do not accept any core funding from government. As an independent charity, however, we rely on corporate sponsorship and donations to continue our vital work. Become a member today and be a part of speaking up for change.

💡 Why innovation in healthcare needs patient involvement 💡 At HETT Show North, together with the Health Innovation Network, we explored why patient and public involvement and engagement (PPIE) must be at the heart of healthcare innovation. Our patient representatives saw incredible innovations, but also gaps like jargon-filled explanations and digital barriers. Without patient input, solutions risk missing those who need them most. Read Sarah Tilsed reflections on the event and why co-creation is essential for tackling health inequalities: https://lnkd.in/eF8vTKkd

🎉 Today, we’re celebrating three years of the Shared Commitment to Public Involvement in health and social care research! Every year, we engage with thousands of patients through our helpline, membership, patient activities, and consultancy. Their insights inform every part of our work, ensuring national policy decisions are influenced by authentic patient voice. Our six key principles for patient partnership can help other organisations embed meaningful involvement too. 👏 We had the privilege of accompanying Curie, a patient, to 10 Downing street yesterday to meet with one of the Prime Minister's Special Advisors. We're honoured to be working with her and supporting the Government on improvements to health & care, and increasing patient partnership!
This morning, myself and Curie, a member of The Patients Association had a lovely tour of No10 Downing Street. We were invited as the pair of us were at the launch of the Prime Minister's 10year health plan of the NHS, and we hope to continue working with the government supporting with #patientpartnership.

We're delighted to announce the appointment of three new trustees, Julia Ross, Teena Chowdhury and Mark Blaney, to the Patients Association's Board. Together they bring a wealth of experience in health and social care, strengthening the charity’s mission to amplify the patient voice and ensure healthcare services are designed and delivered in equal partnership with patients.

We welcome the government's Digital Inclusion Action Plan, recognising the significant impact digital exclusion can have on health outcomes. We’re also encouraged by the co-signature of the Secretary of State for Health & Social Care, which highlights the critical role of healthcare in this important initiative. 🌐💙 As NHS services increasingly move online, ensuring that patients have the skills, confidence, and access to digital healthcare tools is essential. We look forward to collaborating with the Digital Inclusion Action Committee and the Department of Health and Social Care to ensure that patients' needs remain central to these efforts.
From speaking to your GP, to applying for jobs or paying your bills - daily tasks have become increasingly digitised. Yet 1.6 million people in the UK currently live offline, meaning they lack the devices, connection or skills to get online, and around a quarter of the UK population struggle to use online services. The government’s Digital Inclusion Action Plan will work to tackle this challenge, ensuring everyone has the skills to thrive in modern society. Businesses will also benefit, with too many employers currently struggling to recruit candidates with the digital skills required to help them grow their business and ultimately boost economic growth. Key technology companies will also help the government achieve its mission of breaking down the digital divide. Google and BT Group have pledged to deliver digital skills training to thousands in the UK while Vodafone has committed to help one million people by donating connectivity and technology, affordable services, and upskilling communities.
