Breaking Barriers: Understanding Men’s Struggles with Accessing Mental Health Support and the Cost of Silence We start by discussing the pervasive issue of mental health among men, underlined by societal expectations that equate masculinity with toughness and self-reliance, such stigma leads to higher suicide rates among men and a reluctance to seek help. We then focus on recognising warning signs of mental distress in men, before outlining practical steps that men, their colleagues, friends or loved ones can take towards securing timely and appropriate support. The post can be accessed by clicking on the link in the first comment below. This post is the first of a series on gender, or indeed non-gender, specific mental health and support.

  • There was a while there where mindfulness was definitely having a moment. And yet even with the explosion of articles about what it is, and how it helps, many people still misunderstand how it works. Meditation isn't just about breathing calmly and the relaxation that can come from that. It isn't a relaxation technique at all (though it can be relaxing to do for some). It's an exercise that develops a skill. And the skill has psychological benefits far greater than just relaxation.

  • In the UK, 1 in 4 people face mental health challenges each year, yet only 7% reach their goals. Even more concerning, 3% actually experience harm from their attempts, and many give up entirely, living with ongoing suffering. The Lazarus Practice was created to change that. We offer a personalised, comprehensive approach that looks beyond symptoms to address root causes, paving the way for sustainable well-being and we are now accepting patients. Our unique approach combines bespoke, multimodal Pathways that include elements like psychotherapy, sleep optimisation, nutrition, and mindfulness. We build each Pathway collaboratively with our clients, understanding that the journey to well-being is deeply personal and unique. By focusing on root causes, we help clients achieve lasting, meaningful outcomes. We also address the critical issues in modern mental health services: → The ‘Wonky Foundations’ Problem: We invest time in understanding each client’s story, ensuring their Pathway is built on a foundation of insight and empathy. → The ‘One Size Fits All’ Problem: Our tailored Pathways draw on evidence-based specialisms, personalised to each client’s needs and readiness. → The ‘Lack of Know-How’ Problem: Our experts are highly knowledgeable and carefully matched to each client, ensuring they receive the most appropriate support. → The ‘Progress Towards Outcomes’ Problem: We track each client’s journey, adjusting their Pathway as needed to maximise progress and ensure they’re on track to meet their goals. → The ‘In it Alone’ Problem: With a named Client Advocate, each client receives compassionate guidance and support throughout their Pathway, so they always feel held and understood. At The Lazarus Practice, we are setting a new standard in mental health support. Discover therapy as it should be - innovative, compassionate, and entirely focused on you.
