Techniquest
Primary and Secondary Education
Our mission is to embed science in Welsh culture through interactive engagement.
About us
Techniquest is an educational charity. We operate a science discovery centre in Cardiff Bay, run a UK-leading educational programme and supply hands-on interactive exhibits around the world. As an educational charity, we are committed to ensuring that Wales develops a scientifically literate society through interactive STEM engagement. Our mission is to embed science in Welsh culture through interactive engagement. We make science fun and engaging for all ages. At our science discovery centre, we offer two floors of hands-on exhibits, a Science Theatre, a Planetarium, a coffee shop, gift shop and a packed calendar of events including science shows, Toddler Days and After Hours events for those aged 18+. When visitors come to us, we know they will have an enriching and enjoyable experience through exploring our hands-on exhibits. As well as offering the Techniquest experience at our centre in Cardiff Bay, we operate a pioneering programme of educational outreach in schools across Wales that is linked to the National Curriculum. When we were established in 1986, we were one of the first science centres in the UK. Since then we have welcomed five million visitors and have become a much-loved institution to the people of Cardiff and Wales. VENUE HIRE Situated in the heart of Cardiff Bay, our architecturally acclaimed building is the ideal venue for any occasion and can be hired for corporate events, meetings and award dinners to wedding receptions, birthday celebrations and anniversary dinners. Located in a prime location, with nearby parking, our venue has been selected by a number of high-profile organisations and individuals looking for somewhere different to host their events. SUPPORT US Despite going for 30 years, many people don’t realise that Techniquest is a charity. We rely heavily on corporate supporters and visitor admission charges to meet our operating costs.

For #LGBTQHistoryMonth, we’re celebrating LGBTQ+ figures that made great strides in different scientific fields. At the age of 15, American Jack Andraka invented a method to possibly detect various forms of cancer. For this discovery, he was awarded the prestigious Gordon E. Moore Award for Positive Outcomes for Future Generations. He said: “One of my biggest hopes is that I can help inspire other LGBTQ youth to get involved in STEM. I didn't have many role models besides Alan Turing.”
