Ahead of #MWC, I wanted to share some updated thinking around #telcoAPI monetisation... https://lnkd.in/eRmMaZiT I've written an article called "the network is a goldmine" - painting an idea that the network and telco APIs are analogous to a physical gold mine and the mining of gold ore. APIs are the raw material (the gold ore) and operators and their partners need to think about the role they play in the refinement process of this ore... Do you want to only sell the gold ore? This will be a successful model for operators more focussed on being a strong #infraco - heavily automated, heavily cloudified, more wholesale leaning... Do you want to sell the Rolex? Stitching APIs together and packaging these to enable specific use cases/vertical solutions - leveraging APIs to look more like a #servco and add capabilities to existing product lines and platforms Or do you want to run the jewellery store? orchestrating ecosystems or marketplaces around APIs and API driven solutions - selling in your own capabilities but also allowing access to third party APIs across networks (5G, private networks, NTNs, fixed etc.), cloud, and other IT domains. There's money to be made in all parts of the process if you've got the right skill set - operators and their aggregator/distributor partners need to work out where they have strengths to play which role... with which customer segments, in which regions, with which use cases.
