About us

Scotland’s Bravest Manufacturing Company, a division of Royal British Legion Industries is an exciting social enterprise based in Bishopton, Renfrewshire. In April 2023 the company won the King's Award for Enterprise (Promoting Opportunity). We manufacture a wide array of road, rail and commercial signs. We offer specialist waterjet cutting and engraving services. We deliver print including wide format, digital and flatbed, including mail and fulfilment services. We use the latest technology and equipment. The offer is one of quality, competitive pricing and appropriate response times. The additional offer is of course the offer of Social Value. We are the only signage social enterprise in Scotland. Buying your services from Scotland’s Bravest Manufacturing Company not only meets your corporate social responsibility objectives but makes a real difference to the lives of many veterans, others with disabilities and their families. We provide employment opportunities for Armed Forces veterans living in Scotland, enabling them to work and develop independence in a challenging and commercially focused environment. We support those who, for whatever reason, find themselves some distance from the workplace. The social enterprise is a collaborative project between RBLI (who already run a successful social enterprise in Kent) and fellow military charity Erskine. The purpose is about creating independence through employment and Erskine has bold new plans for apartments on their village for those veterans needing accommodation as well as employment. The consultation teams have been overwhelmed by the level of support and encouragement from Veterans Scotland and many of its member Charities. We see this new initiative as playing a part in the much broader and positive support already being given to the Armed Forces Community in Scotland.

  • As a Social Enterprise supporting veterans AND others with disabilities or disadvantage, this picture and the background to it sums up our work. Just a few years ago, both of these SBMC employees, from very different backgrounds, were in the depths of despair: unemployed, poor mental health, a lack of purpose and limited opportunities. This weekend, both completed the gruelling RBLI Tommy Trek* to help raise funds for the organisation that helped them rebuild positive and fulfilling lives. Given the state of their feet at the 20k point, their determination to finish was proof of the strength they have gained simply through opportunity. When people ask what we make....we clearly don't just make signs..... we make opportunities! Our work proves it and our King's Award for Enterprise endorses it. Thank you to all who supported our fundraising effort and a big shout out to BEAR Scotland for their generous donation to offset the SBMC team's logistic costs (on top of their unwavering custom!). When companies buy from us they are not just paying for signs either: they really are creating #socialimpact. Who wouldn't want a slice of that? Big shout out to Chevron Traffic Management who sponsored and supported the event (again!). *a sleep deprived 40km trek through the night with 20km of rough terrain followed by 20km of blister-busting metalled track through the North Downs/Pilgrims Route in Kent. Commemorating D-Day and the Normandy Campaign. There's still time to support! #RBLI #buysocialscotland #BEAR #sorefeet

  • Thanks to Scotland Excel and SDP Scotland for the opportunity to promote SBMC. Robert appears to be hitching a lift off of the stage at this point! Seriously though, great event...so busy and some great feedback for what we do!

  • All at Scotland's Bravest wish to extend huge thanks to our local teams from Amey who contributed their Social Value days last week to help brighten up our factory here in Bishopton. Essentially, they painted, painted and then did some more painting to bring to life some unloved parts of the factory and brighten up our new graphics area. This assistance, while we continued to drive on with production and creating social value in the factory...great stuff! @AmeySouthWestTrunkRoads, @Amey, #SWAmey

Assistant Director at Scotland's Bravest Manufacturing Company

For someone who has forever been fascinated by D-Day, be that individual stories of valour; collective spirit to succeed; the guile and deception; the logistic effort; engineering ingenuity; international collaboration; human sacrifice on so many levels...I can bang on...there are just so many facets. I am delighted to be taking part in this tribute to the many who gave up so much.

  • A few of us are supporting #RBLI's Great Tommy Sleepout by sleeping out in the wilds of East Renfrewshire on 20 March 25. Anton, one of our Army #veteran beneficiaries is leading our team. Anton has been with us since Oct 23 and will complete his "traineeship" with us this summer. He will have earned a number of Health and Safety Awards, a Diploma in Manufacturing Operations and will complete a couple of placements with a view to finding permanent employment beyond SBMC. https://lnkd.in/eVjitS3g

  • Signs made by #veterans here at Scotland's Bravest and #RBLI have been helping people navigate the roads of our beautiful country for quite a few years now...but increasingly we've also been providing wayfinding/signage solutions for public and private sector customers across Scotland and the UK. Thank you to the Care Inspectorate and associate departments for their custom and creating #SocialImpact in buying from us.

  • RBLI can now proudly display the JOSCAR Registration Mark, an accreditation which is highly valued by many of the largest purchasers in the aerospace, defence and security industries. JOSCAR recognition indicates that RBLI has taken part in a thorough assessment of its commitment and credentials in these areas, and has achieved the required standards. This accreditation and mark of quality will support the charity’s future ambitions of being a qualified supplier for future defence business. • When SBMC was launched by RBLI, we were set on becoming much more than "just" employers of veterans with disabilities/disadvantage. With thanks to the Forces in Mind Trust (FiMT) for their backing and vital funding and then 3 years' of hard work by all of our veterans, our training manager (Julie Scott) and our evaluation partners at Glasgow Caledonian University (esp Danielle Hutcheon and Carolyn McMillan) we proved that, despite our small size and fledgling status we could achieve some great things. We established SBMC as an Accredited Training Centre, opened ourselves up for scrutiny as individuals and as an organisation and overcame a whole host of challenges. Today we got the hard copy of the final report on "Accredited Vocational Training within Supported Employment for Veterans": An Evaluation of Impact within SBMC. We hope this is just the start and that our efforts here help sow the seed for further investment in accredited veteran development both here and across the UK. If you want a copy of our report, get in touch! #RBLI #Veterans

  • Huge thanks to HOCHTIEF for coming to SBMC from the "off". This is just one sign in a batch of 100s. Your commitment to our Social Enterprise and those who do likewise ensures we can continue to deliver our mission, enabling veterans and others with disabilities to regain their independence....thank you!

𝗔 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 🤝 Our commitment to social responsibility and sustainable business has led us to place our first orders with Scotland's Bravest Manufacturing Company (SBMC). We are proud to begin this valued relationship. SBMC is a significant organization dedicated to supporting veterans, disabled people and their families. By providing skilled employment and promoting social and vocational skills, SBMC enables its employees to utilize and develop their abilities. 💪 Pictured are employees Carl and Davie. After serving in the Royal Navy and the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, both made the transition to civilian life despite some setbacks. Carl now takes on key roles in shipping and logistics, while Davie heads up the graphics and print department. Carl and Davie are two inspiring examples of a team made up of many highly skilled and dedicated veterans and disabled employees. The partnership support of companies like SBMC plays a vital role in providing people with meaningful employment and the opportunity to develop. 🚀 We are proud to be a part of this important initiative and look forward to working together to improve the lives of many people and create a better future. Many thanks to SBMC for the valuable partnership. We look forward to future successful projects! 🔜 #social #responsibility #sustainability #inclusion #partnership #create #future
