The Patient Information Forum (PIF) is the independent membership body for people working in health information and support. We run the only independently-assessed quality mark for print and digital health information – the PIF TICK. PIF represents more than 300 organisations across the NHS, voluntary, academic, freelance and commercial sectors. Our expert guidance on the production of high-quality health information supports an improved healthcare experience for patients and the public. Our vision is for everyone to have access to personalised health information and support to enable them to make informed decisions about their health, wellbeing and care. Our charitable objectives are to advance health in particular but not exclusively by: (i) setting high standards for health information for the public and patients to use; (ii) providing guidance, training and support to health professionals and others producing high quality health information; and promoting awareness of high standards for health information among patients and the public. Our strategy is based on the principles of quality, integration, expertise and inclusion. PIF is a charitable incorporated organisation. We are governed by a board of Trustees and guided by an Advisory Group of senior information professionals drawn from our membership.

We are thrilled to end the week with some very exciting news! The PIF TICK is highlighted as a way to help signpost credible health information in the Government's updated Rare Diseases Action Plan. Published by the Department of Health and Social Care, the updated plan recognises the important role of patient support groups in developing reliable and easy-to-access information on rare conditions. It includes a commitment to explore how the PIF TICK can help increase healthcare professional recognition of the information patient support groups produce. The plan also outlines the PIF TICK criteria and highlights the benefits of wider PIF membership, including access to our best practice guidance.
