The government has a unique and time-critical opportunity to position the UK as a world-leader in AI.  The Chancellor's plans for a UK 'Silicon Valley' and the new AI action plan show the UK's commitment to tech innovation. AI will be a critical enabler to many new technologies that will revolutionise our way of life, including self-driving vehicles. 🚨 But we need the right regulatory support to make it happen. 🚨 In looking to establish its future position as global AI leader, the government must not fail to recognise the technology opportunities that already exist. Autonomous vehicles aren't just the future - they're here now, revolutionising transportation and creating jobs. At Oxa, we're already exporting our software to the world, unlocking a $trillion+ opportunity in Industrial Mobility Automation. In our latest blog, Jamie Hodsdon, Global Head of Regulatory & Public Affairs at Oxa, explores why expediting a regulatory framework to allow driverless vehicles on our roads is vital for keeping the UK at the forefront of AI. But perhaps the Prime Minister said it best: “...the AI industry needs a government that is on their side, one that won’t sit back and let opportunities slip through its fingers. In a world of fierce competition, we cannot stand by. We must move fast and take action to win the global race.” The work starts now. 🔗 Follow the link in our comments to read the full blog and more on our website.

The recent announcements on an AI Opportunities Action Plan and an Oxford-Cambridge Growth Corridor are very welcome signals that this government is committed to making the #UK a world-leader on new technologies.   In the words of the Prime Minister: '…the AI industry needs a government that is on their side, one that won’t sit back and let opportunities slip through its fingers. And in a world of fierce competition, we cannot stand by. We must move fast and take action to win the global race.'   As a world-leading developer of physical AI, we couldn't agree more. But the government mustn't forget that #autonomousvehicles are a near-term, tangible example of AI that will revolutionise the public's access to transport, helping to improve road safety and tackle congestion.   In my blog for #Oxa (linked below), I explore why expediting a regulatory framework to allow driverless vehicles on our roads is vital for keeping the UK at the forefront of AI.

An opinion piece on recent government announcements on #AI #growth and the #OxCamSupercluster: As a company at the forefront of frontier AI and Robotics technology - born and raised on the breathtaking talent and breakthrough research of one of the worlds finest institutions in University of Oxford - I am proud to have contributed to this ecosystem and this historic moment alongside friends in the Oxford-Cambridge Supercluster Board. I believe this movement has the potential to slingshot the UK to the leaders table and generate enormous econonic, societal and planetary value across many growth areas, not least frontier technologies such as AI and Robotics - where we at Oxa are unlocking a $trillion+ opportunity in Industrial Mobility Automation and exporting it to the world. We must look at the opportunity through the right set of lenses and align our strategy accordingly. Deep Tech and frontier technologies are so called because they usher in a ‘new normal’. A paradigm shift in the way the world works and (in our case) the way the world moves. It is not in any way akin to standard enterprise software business development operating on the tip of a technology wave - as valuable as that clearly is - it is generating the very energy that creates the waves that businesses will ride for several decades to come. The UK is world-leading at creating that energy and Oxa is an exemplar national champion leading on the global scene. For this reason, we at Oxa welcome this announcement and see it as a positive step forward. But this is a start-line announcement of good intent and planning. It is not a finishing line announcement. The work starts now and it requires bold thinking, ambitious attitudes to risk and reward and the collaboration across all of the UK’s systems, not least the effort underway with the Mansion House review and the unlocking of funds to match the growth ambition. As I mentioned in the recent Oxford-Cambridge Supercluster Board meeting; the only thing worse than ‘not’ building critical infrastructure projects like the East West Railway Company proposal, is to do the project, exert energy and capital, complete 97% of the line and then run out of track 3 miles from the finishing line. That’s a metaphor for attitudes towards and understanding of deep tech development. Our world-class institutions have helped develop frontier technology, enabled the private sector to build miles and miles of hard fought (metaphorical) track. But our current systems will see us concede the last miles of investment in track to ambitious, foreign sovereign wealth and with that all of the value those hard yards laid before it. So let’s do this right. Let’s match the ambitions of bold entrepreneurs, supported by the worlds leading universities and make the UK ‘the’ centre for frontier AI, Robotics and Life Sciences companies exporting to the world.

My first ride on an autonomous vehicle and what better place than on the Sunderland Highway! We excitedly welcomed the Sunderland Advanced Mobility Shuttle (SAMS) to Sunderland on the 6th Jan with the vehicle running enroute daily. It was quite something witnessing the autonomous driving system first-hand as it navigated the complex route from Park Lane Interchange to Sunderland Royal Hospital. Huge thanks to our SAMS partners: Oxa, Stagecoach Bus, Perform Green Limited, Newcastle University, Boldyn Networks, Swansea University and ANGOKA and to Centre for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles and Innovate UK for providing this opportunity. We look forward to enhancing passenger options in the coming weeks and demonstrating how autonomous transport can enhance connectivity and sustainability in urban environments. #Sunderland #CityofSmart #Innovation #FutureReady

Hello Sunderland! 🚌🤖🇬🇧 You’ll soon see a new self-driving Ford E-Transit shuttle, driven by Oxa, running as part of the Sunderland Advanced Mobility Shuttle (SAMS) project. The electric shuttle will travel between three busy destinations: 🏢 City centre 🧑🎓 University of Sunderland City Campus 🏥 Sunderland Royal Hospital. Running in Q1 2025, the project is a vital part of Sunderland’s ongoing smart city journey and will illustrate how autonomous passenger shuttles can better connect people to key destinations, while reducing environmental impact. 💚 Councillor Michael Mordey, leader of Sunderland City Council, said: “This initiative is not just about testing new technology; it's about improving the quality of life for our residents by offering efficient, sustainable transport options. Oxa’s expertise in autonomous vehicle technology is integral to our shared vision of creating a forward-thinking, sustainable transport system for the people of Sunderland.” Zenzic, Centre for Connected and Autonomous Vehicles, Innovate UK, Stagecoach Bus, Swansea University, ANGOKA, Boldyn Networks, Newcastle University #SAMS #SmartCities #UrbanMobility
