Timber construction is on the rise in the UK as we push towards net-zero carbon targets. With increasing adoption and industry collaboration, we’re seeing real progress – especially in insurer confidence. The recent backing of the ASBP's Mass Timber Insurance Playbook by The ABI (Association of British Insurers) highlights how education is shifting perceptions. Is timber the key to reducing embodied carbon in construction? That's what we explore in our brand-new video, as we cover topics including carbon sequestration, renewability, energy efficiency, and end-of-life benefits. Learn how the use of timber can reduce the embodied emissions in a single building by 20% to 60% 👉 watch the video below. Interested in learning more? As part of our commitment to promoting Timber in Construction, we're even involved in research. Our Technical Director Andy Gibson recently completed a Masters in Sustainability Leadership with the University of Cambridge, and his research into forestry standards and the impact on atmospheric carbon was published yesterday in Sustainability MDPI journal. Read here for some interesting insights into how only a modest improvement in managing forest for optimised carbon drawdown will secure true 'additionality' for the carbon benefit of timber as a building material. #timberinconstruction #universityofcambridge #cisl #idbe #forestry #carbon #sustainability https://lnkd.in/eACHpcfp

The industry is getting behind the shift to timber frame construction. ➡️ Approximately 80% of new homes in Scotland are now built using timber frame. ➡️ Property developer and housebuilder Bellway Homes aims to use timber frame construction in 30% of its housing projects by 2030, more than doubling its current 12% output. The company reports that timber frame construction has a proven range of operational, financial and environmental benefits. Plus, investment by the largest housing building companies - including Persimmon Homes and Barratt Homes - in acquiring timber frame manufacturers highlight that they recognise this is vital to future success. Our timber frame approach can decrease build programme time by as much as 30%. For private self-builders and main contractors alike, the main advantage of using timber is this much faster build cycle. But timber is also strong, durable, and versatile too; plus, it has the lowest CO2 cost of any commercial building material and once installed, provides high levels of thermal insulation, reducing overall heating costs. This is great to hear Mark. More of the same to come, I hope 😉
Timberframe is a game changer in construction. 1st house is watertight and 1st fix starts Monday. The house was only delivered 4 weeks and everyone was closed for 2 weeks for Christmas. 4th house delivered today. Quicker to build the housesthan connect services though. Don't even get me started on electric connections. Merronbrook Ltd Quantum Development Finance Holly Callan
