We’re thrilled to announce that Harmony Energy Limited (HEL) and Harmony Energy Income Trust plc (HEIT) secured three awards at the 2024 Energy Storage Awards: 🏆 Developer of the Year 🏆 Grid-Scale Standalone Energy Storage Project of the Year 🏆 Best UK Project Under 100MW Being crowned Developer of the Year represents an extraordinary period of growth for HEL whose operational portfolio includes Europe’s three biggest battery energy storage systems (BESS) by MWh (at the time of launch). The HEIT 99MW / 198MWh Bumpers BESS also had a standout year, taking home two awards. Developed by HEL, it was energised ahead of schedule in October 2023. The site features Tesla Energy’s cutting-edge 2-hour Megapack 2XL technology and can power over 321,000 homes for two hours. In December 2023, it earned a spot on the BBC News “Five Reasons for Optimism on Climate”. The awards also celebrate the impact of Harmony’s continued outreach – from supporting local jobs and businesses to promoting BESS technology through school presentations, guided tours and animations. A new report from CBI (Confederation of British Industry) Economics, commissioned by the Energy and Climate Intelligence Unit, highlights how the net zero economy is creating high-quality jobs, attracting record-breaking investment and fuelling economic growth across the UK.   ✅ £28.8 billion contributed by 22,800 net zero businesses in 2024 (with a remarkable 94% being SMEs) ✅ 273,000+ full-time jobs directly supported, surpassing employment in the telecoms sector ✅ Net zero jobs are 40% more productive with wages 15% higher than the UK average ✅ Investment surge: net zero businesses attracted £23 billion in 2023/24, with £20.1 billion from foreign direct investment (47% growth from the previous year)   The UK’s regional economies are thriving too. Following the major news that Harmony Energy is set to build New Zealand’s biggest solar farm, CEO Peter Kavanagh was welcomed to the New Zealand High Commission, by High Commissioner to the UK Phil Goff, Deputy High Commissioner Guergana Guermanoff and Investment Director Martin Aitchison.   They discussed how solar farms like the 202 MWp Tauhei project (a JV with Clarus company First Renewables Limited), which will supply clean home-grown electricity to about 35,000 homes without relying on taxpayer subsidies, are ‘exactly the sort of investment New Zealand wants’.   Founded by Pete Grogan and co-led with Managing Director Garth Elmes, Harmony Energy New Zealand has been making significant strides, with Project Tauhei being the first of a great pipeline of 10 large-scale solar and battery projects.   Interested in learning more? We recently welcomed the Climate Centre team to the multi-award winning Harmony Energy Income Trust plc Pillswood site ⚡ During their visit, they interviewed our CEO, Peter Kavanagh, who shared his insights on how Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) can: ✅ Help renewable energy thrive by balancing supply and demand ✅ Enhance the UK’s energy security ✅ Make energy more affordable for everyone Peter also addressed some of the challenges we face, including the planning process and the misunderstandings that often fuel myths about relatively newer technology like BESS. Construction is set to begin on the Tauhei Solar Farm, New Zealand’s largest solar project at 202 MWp, located near Te Aroha on the North Island. This milestone follows the successful financial close and final investment approval by Harmony Energy Limited and Clarus company, First Renewables Limited. Managing Director Garth Elmes commented on project Tauhei: “We are excited to have reached this significant milestone, with all major contracts, financing, consents and regulatory approvals now in place. We will now start construction on New Zealand’s largest solar farm, marking a significant milestone for the nation in its pursuit of providing cleaner, home-grown energy.” The Tauhei Solar Farm – expected to be operational by late 2026 – is set to deliver: ✅ Enough renewable energy to power approximately 35,000 New Zealand homes. ✅ Environmental benefits, including the planting of 120,000 native plants, the creation of wetlands, and transitioning the land from dairy to sheep farming, with solar panels providing shade and shelter for livestock. ✅ Economic opportunities, with around 350 full-time equivalent jobs during the peak of construction and permanent roles created once the project is complete. Outside its joint venture with First Renewables Power, Harmony Energy New Zealand has secured a further nine solar / BESS projects aimed at bolstering the nation's clean energy capacity and energy security. Harmony Energy Commercial Director Pete Grogan commented on the pipeline: "Strategically we are in an excellent position with all the land required for our projects under option and all our grid connections towards the top of Transpower's Generation Connection Pipeline. Furthermore, with our connections at 110kV or 220kV, we will have dispatch priority over competing generation connected at lower voltages. “With the construction of Tauhei Solar Farm set to begin and consents already granted for projects in Masterton, Marton and Opunake, 2025 promises to be a formative year for the New Zealand business. We were delighted to welcome students from the New Energy Business School to the Harmony Energy Income Trust plc Bumpers Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) last week⚡ The group visited the multi-award winning BESS as part of their Executive Programme on Energy Transition in Business & Leadership - a course designed to explore and develop innovative business models in response to the significant and disruptive changes occurring in the energy market. Programme Director Bert Stuij said: “A highlight at the heart of the module was the excursion to the Harmony Energy storage site in Buckinghamshire. "Almost hidden in the landscape, and next to a solar field, we were welcomed to the largest battery storage installation in Europe. Our inspiring guides Alex Thornton and Emily Taylor told us all about operations, economics and the crucial service the batteries provide to the power system of the UK. And so many more are planned by Harmony, not just in the UK, but all over Europe. The coming electric era will be characterised by flexibility, balancing and storage. “We saw the future emerge!” Harmony's co-founder, Alex Thornton, said: “It was our great pleasure to show such a talented group of business leaders around Bumpers and discuss the important role BESS plays in the energy transition. We faced wet and blustery conditions, but that didn’t stop the enthusiasm and interest in our battery site, as they got to see in real time how this BESS operated to support the grid during a time when the UK electricity market was particularly tight. “I love these kinds of tours, and the more challenging the questions, the better! This week marks Energy Savers Week in the UK, a national campaign dedicated to raising awareness about energy efficiency and providing support to help households reduce their energy bills.   Through the Harmony Energy Income Trust plc Pillswood Community Fund, we supported The Peel Project on their TPP Home Energy Saving Project.   The Peel Project said: “The Pillswood Community Fund is a game changer for us.
