šŸš€ Danke, MĆ¼nchen & NĆ¼rnberg! The German leg of our Grow London Future of Patient Care trade mission has been incredibly inspiring, connecting 13 UK companies in Digital Health, Remote Care, and Diagnostics with key players in public and private healthcare, pharma, and investment. šŸ° After a busy day of engaging with healthcare innovators and ecosystem players at the Gesundheit bei Bayern Innovativ Medtec Summit, we were excited to attend an exclusive networking evening at the Imperial Castle of NĆ¼rnberg. The experience was made even more memorable as we celebrated Dan Harris (Oxford Heartbeat) winning a top spot in the Summitā€™s pitch competition! šŸŽ‰ Our last day in Munich was equally exciting... šŸ”¬ We kicked off the day with an engaging meeting at MSD Deutschland, where we learned about the MSD Idea Studio and their work in innovation partnerships and investments, as well as their main focus areas which were aligned perfectly with our delegation's theme. A big thank you to our hosts Kirsten Hoyer, Jutta Klauer, MBA, AzĆØle Mathieu, and it was wonderful to connect with Inga Bergen, Luisa Wasilewski, and Jiskia Reis šŸ¤ šŸ„¼ Next, we delved into the research side at the Technical University of Munich (TUM), exploring advancements in wearables and sensors, which are particularly relevant for our diagnostics companies. We had some great conversations about research partnerships and access to datasets. Warm thanks to Can Dincer for hosting us and sharing your fascinating research. šŸ„ Last but certainly not least, we met with Sana Kliniken, the leading integrated healthcare provider in the German-speaking region. We discussed the fantastic opportunities for digitalization in Germany, as well as the challenges around electronic health records and integrated systems. Thank you to Lena Koschorrek, Justin Voit, Michael Huebner, Zeynep Timur, and Tina Breuer for hosting us. Throughout all the sessions, our delegates have had the chance to pitch and introduce their innovative businesses, sparking brilliant conversations and connections šŸ™Œ Now, onto ZĆ¼rich! šŸ‡ØšŸ‡Two days of insights and connections in Switzerlandā€™s thriving Life Sciences ecosystem await. • Guten Tag, Munich! šŸ‘‹ Ā  On Monday, Grow London Global kicked off our Future of Patient Care trade mission, bringing together 13 pioneering #DigitalHealth and #Diagnostics companies to explore opportunities in the German market šŸš€ šŸ™ļø We began our time in Munich at the offices of German Accelerator / Start2 Group, where we were warmly welcomed by Sonali MĆ¼ller. She provided an insightful overview of Germanyā€™s dynamic digital health landscape, highlighting key opportunities driven by changes such as the Digital Healthcare Act (DVG). With over 2,000 hospitals, Germany presents a huge opportunity for our UK health innovators! Ā  šŸ’” Next, we gained invaluable market insights from Natalie SchĆ¼ller and Elisabeth Deffner of Brunswick Group, who shared expert advice on navigating Germanyā€™s regulatory system and business landscape. šŸš€ We then had the privilege of hearing from scaling success story: Kaia Health, a company that has successfully expanded into Germany. Arabella Grandel and Graham Lewis shared their journey, shedding light on cultural nuances and key strategies for entering the market. šŸ’° Our delegates then had the opportunity to hear from, and also pitch to leading Munich investors, including: Christina Schmidt (YZR Capital), Sabrina Stƶckl (b2venture), Jiskia Reis (EIT Health), Gregor Henrik Unger and Mathias Klozenbuecher (FCF Fox Corporate Finance GmbH). Thanks to all for joining us! šŸ„Ø Wrapping up day 1 in true Bavarian style, we enjoyed a fantastic evening hosted by our own Christa Holmborg at Xaver'S, networking over delicious traditional German food. A huge thank you to EstefanĆa RodrĆguez Migliarini, Max Hauer, Fabian Scheugenpflug, Lena Koschorrek and Nassir Navab for joining us and sharing your expertise! Ā  šŸ“ Today, weā€™re in Nuremberg for the Bayern Innovativ GmbH #MedtecSUMMIT, where weā€™re engaging with key players in MedTech and AI-driven healthcare solutions. • šŸ† London placed as #1 overall in the fDiā€™s European Cities of the Future ranking in the major cities division! Ā  The UK had one of its strongest years in 2024, off the back of a handful of multi-billion pound commitments into cloud and artificial intelligence infrastructure across the country. London in particular has continued to attract more inward FDI than any other city in Europe, bringing in almost three times as many FDI projects as any other European city in 2024, with foreign investors announcing projects worth $5.63bn over the year. šŸ“ˆ Ā  Neil Brigden, Director of FDI at London & Partners commented "As we look to drive the next phase of Londonā€™s growth towards a fairer, greener and more prosperous future, we stay true to the values that make London exceptional." Here are some key takeaways: āœØ New incentives driving investment The Independent Film Tax Credit is attracting a wider pool of financiers, co-production partners and global investors. With an enhanced 53% credit (40% actual relief) for films under Ā£15m, the UK is becoming even more appealing for independent productions. šŸš€ Boosted VFX tax relief From April 2025, the UKā€™s VFX tax relief will increase by 5% to 29.25%, with no cap on eligible spending. This is already drawing major international VFX studios to the UK, including French company The Yard VFX and Important Looking Pirates VFX, founded in Stockholm. šŸ’” Creative tech success stories The UKā€™s creative technology sector is thriving! The groundbreaking Abba Voyage has alone generated Ā£1.4bn for the UK economy, showcasing the countryā€™s leadership in immersive entertainment. šŸŽ„ London & the UK are open for business With enhanced screen sector tax reliefs and a reputation as a premier co-production and full-service production hub, the UK remains a top destination for international film businesses.
