This week has been a busy week for the Greater Manchester Diagnostics Network team as we attended two events held at The Manchester Metropolitan University. 🔵 Meet the STEM Employers event On Tuesday the team hosted a stand at the Meet the STEM Employers event to talk to students studying science, technology, engineering and mathematics courses about the roles in the NHS, especially within diagnostics. The team spoke to over 150 students considering careers in the NHS about jobs and placements available to them. It was a fantastic turnout and inspiring to hear the questions students posed about their future aspirations. 🔵 Student Placement Joint Recruitment Event On Wednesday the team were back at MMU, joining forces with The University of Salford and The University of Bolton to host a student placement recruitment event for second year biomedical science students looking to secure a placement with a Greater Manchester NHS Trust. Organised by Julie Miller, the day was jampacked from start to finish, with team activities and panel interviews with many students securing their placements by the end of the day. #students #biomedicalscience #STEMcareers #STEMEmployer

Yesterday members of the network team were joined by colleagues from Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust at Winstanley College for their Health Careers event. The day brought to life the various roles across diagnostics that are available in the NHS and provided a great opportunity for students to explore careers they may not have thought about. The students were able to have a go at being a biomedical scientist through the use of a virtual reality headset which allowed them to immerse themselves in a laboratory environment. It was great to showcase the fast array of careers during #NationalApprenticeshipWeek. #NAW2025 #SkillsforLife

Yesterday was a jampacked day at the 4th NHS Pathology Conference hosted by Convenzis Group at the Hilton Hotel in Manchester. Chaired by the Greater Manchester Diagnostics Network's Chief Officer, Chris Sleight, the day explored themes such as workforce challenges, network collaboration, and improving diagnostics turn around times. Chris was also joined on stage by workforce development lead for the network, Gareth Richardson and Dr. Rajesh Rajendran, clinical lead for the pathology network who spoke about the work going on across Greater Manchester. With over 200 people in attendance, the audience posed some great questions to the speakers on the day, with lots of food for thought moving forward. We hope all those that attended enjoyed the day as much as we did. A huge thanks to the team at Convenzis for all their hard work in pulling this event together.

Recently we have taken another step forward with the roll out of PACS based reporting to support faster diagnosis for patients. Salford Royal is the latest hospital to adopt the technology to allow reporters and radiologists to use a single platform to both view and report on imaging studies. This new milestone means that all of Northern Care Alliance NHS Foundation Trust hospital sites in the localities of Salford, Bury, Rochdale and Oldham are now live with the new technology.
