The Railways Bill is set to deliver a once in a generation overhaul of Britain's railways, ending decades of poor service and timetable chaos. A consultation launched today outlines our plans to establish Great British Railways, a new body which will put passengers first, raise living standards and support growth across the UK. 📢 The #GreatBritishRailSale is back, with up to half-price discounts on two million train tickets! 👫 It was a pleasure, once again, to work alongside the Department for Transport (DfT), United Kingdom for Transport (DfT) and the Rail Delivery Group (RDG), to bring this initiative to life - recognising the importance of value for money for passengers. 📈 Building on the success of last year’s sale - which saw 600,000 tickets sold, generated £5.1m in revenue for the rail industry, and resulted in an additional 440,000 train journeys - the 2025 sale is set to be the biggest yet. 🥳 With so much going on this year for Railway 200, it’s the perfect time to get out and about by train and take part in the historic, industry-wide #Railway200 celebration. ❓Why are the #Railway200 celebrations so exciting? Because they’re train-ing us for a year of fun! 👀 📹 In case you missed it…on January 1st, the Railway 200 ‘Whistle-up’ kicked off the celebration of 200 years of our modern railway with a chorus of train whistles and horns. Nearly 200 vintage locomotives, from more than 50 heritage railways across the UK and beyond joined the chorus - including railways in The Netherlands, South Africa, and Sierra Leone! 🫵 Find out how you can track-down some fun and celebrate all things railway in 2025 👉 https://lnkd.in/eaZ3KaWe

2025 is a milestone year for Britain’s railway, kicking off with the launch of a new The Royal Mint £2 coin and our Railway 200 celebrations - highlighting two centuries of transformative impact - connecting people, goods, and communities. I had the pleasure of being in Sheringham on New Year's day, where the North Norfolk Railway PLC delivered a fantastic ‘Whistle Up’ as part of #Railway200, while continuing their excellent winter services. Check out Nigel Bird's fantastic video below. Railway 200 means different things to different people. For me, the railway is all about economic and social transformation achieved over the last two centuries. North Norfolk itself opening up with the benefits of tourist traffic and an ability to shift its agricultural produce to market quickly and cheaply. My mum who, like me, was a historian at University, studied and wrote on the dispersal of families and businesses on the construction of Liverpool Street Station in the 19th century. Its impacts were huge because its footprint was huge and a reminder that the railway does not always tread lightly - although surely more lightly than the trunk road network. And 2025 isn’t just about looking back; it’s about the future of rail. With pay-as-you-go ticketing expanding across major cities, more operators transitioning to public ownership, and transformative reforms underway, we’re reimagining rail’s role in transforming economic and social outcomes - linking people and their homes sustainably with jobs, employment and leisure. Here’s to a year of celebrating our heritage, reflecting on achievements, and driving meaningful change. #RailReform #SimplerBetter

⬆️ Rail revenue grows by 11% year-on-year, according to our latest analysis. Commuting achieved the highest growth at 12%, continuing its post-pandemic recovery. Leisure and business travel also increased, both rising by 10% year-on-year. 🛍️ 💼 👍 The period covered in the report (July to September 2024-25) saw no industrial action, one factor in protecting revenue growth. “We hope the consistent growth across all journey purposes will continue as the industry works to rebuild passenger trust”, added Suzanne Donnelly, GBRTT’s Customer & Revenue Growth Director. 💯 Read the latest Train Travel Snapshot here 👇 https://lnkd.in/dpjbv_hw

📣 November saw Ana Chan and Martin Prior from GBRTT at Rail Delivery Group’s annual Passenger Demand Forecasting Scheme conference, talking about our vision for rail and showcasing the Periodic Rail Industry Market Report (PRIMR) and the National Industry Revenue Model (NIRM). The event offered a fantastic chance to connect and collaborate, with participants also hearing from organisations such as VisitBritain, Transport Focus and Department for Transport (DfT), United Kingdom. As passenger numbers continue to grow, it’s important the rail industry develops in a way that is more agile in order to better support those who wish to travel by train, whether for business or pleasure. The Passenger Demand Forecasting Scheme is an important part of this. Just before this week’s #InternationalDayofPeopleWithDisabilities, Rail Unites for Inclusion hosted an event looking at how the UK rail network can be made accessible and inclusive for all. 👏 Following a great discussion with the panel of speakers, the breakout sessions encouraged participants to share their experiences and highlight good practice during what was a very busy morning. Topics ranged from disability pay gap reporting to how we can better support our disabled customers, colleagues and communities as we move towards a more integrated railway. 👍 GBRTT is honoured to have played a part in supporting this event, bringing together accessibility leads and champions, EEDI leads and allies under the Rail Unites for Inclusion banner.
