Last week we pitched at FundMyPitch organised by Steven Mooney at Barclays Eagle Labs. As well as a £50k cash price for the overall ‘best pitch’, the connections and networking in the room were invaluable. With many events you can have attendees overkill, open plan acoustics and working the room becomes a game of who can shout the loudest (not me). I find smaller, tailored groups to have higher conversion on meaningful connections with less shouting to be heard. Who we connected with: 💧An angel from a group we had pitched to before but didn’t quite pick up our healthcare and medical device positioning, now writing a ticket 💧 An angel from a group who was keen to invest but their specific groups pitch date was outwith our timeline, still keen to invest and now doing so via our lead investor instead 💧 As a result of a connection in the room we are being introduced to angels in our space of which GLORIAH would compliment their current portfolio My rule of thumb per event is three good connections which we certainly hit this time around 👏 GLORIAH totes reserved for founders for now (maybe investors too 👀)

FirstLook 2026 reaches Newcastle tomorrow. The penultimate stop of our five-city roadshow lands at the Grainger Hub Newcastle on Tuesday 23 June, run in partnership with FounderCatalyst. The evening: a drinks reception, a panel conversation, and 6 live pitches from early-stage SEIS and EIS eligible companies, followed by networking. Medical device fixation: A catheter fixation device tested to 7x the pull-force resistance of existing products, with a 14-day showerproof wear time and a licensing model targeting a multi-billion pound global market.
