Last week we pitched at FundMyPitch organised by Steven Mooney at Barclays Eagle Labs. As well as a £50k cash price for the overall ‘best pitch’, the connections and networking in the room were invaluable. With many events you can have attendees overkill, open plan acoustics and working the room becomes a game of who can shout the loudest (not me). I find smaller, tailored groups to have higher conversion on meaningful connections with less shouting to be heard. Who we connected with: 💧An angel from a group we had pitched to before but didn’t quite pick up our healthcare and medical device positioning, now writing a ticket 💧 An angel from a group who was keen to invest but their specific groups pitch date was outwith our timeline, still keen to invest and now doing so via our lead investor instead 💧 As a result of a connection in the room we are being introduced to angels in our space of which GLORIAH would compliment their current portfolio My rule of thumb per event is three good connections which we certainly hit this time around 👏 GLORIAH totes reserved for founders for now (maybe investors too 👀)

Last night, FirstLook 2026 came to a close. Our final stop on the regional roadshow brought us to Glasgow, and it did not disappoint. A fantastic turnout, 7 brilliant companies pitching, and a network that was genuinely top tier. Across the whole series, the thing that stood out in every location was how warmly we were welcomed by each ecosystem. We kept the venues small and intimate. The goal was simple…the people in the room needed to be there, not just nice to have. It worked. I’ll be honest, I was very sceptical going in. FundMyPitch has always been an online, virtual model, and I’ve never been much of a believer in in-person events. But over the last 3.5 years of growing our investor network, the data pointed us to 5 cities that needed more visibility, where the startups needed more exposure to active investors. So we went. A massive thank you to everyone who applied, to every company we selected to pitch, to our partners, our supporters, and of course our investors. None of this would have been possible without you. And something tells me we’ll be back bigger and better very soon. Announcements to follow. Thanks to FounderCatalyst, Weightmans, Barclays Eagle Labs, Angel Investors Bristol, Fundraising101™, SyndicateRoom, Mercia Ventures, Northstar Ventures, Ulster Bank, Fuel Ventures 🚀, British Design Fund.

Angel investing isn't just about spotting opportunities. It's about spotting people. When investors look back on their best investments, they often talk less about the original business model and more about the founders behind it. The resilience. The ability to learn. The speed of execution. The willingness to adapt. Because we know that markets change, products evolve and strategies shift - but great founders keep moving. That's why, when assessing early-stage opportunities, investors often look beyond the business idea and focus on the people behind it. For angels reviewing deals right now, what's the most underrated founder trait you've seen lead to success? Would love to hear your thoughts below 👇
