🌟 As we wrap up #NationalCareersWeek, we’re excited to share the inspiring journey of Kimberley McDonald, Associate Director within Group Treasury at Macquarie Group Group. We asked Kimberley to tell us about her career journey and the advice she’d share with you all, and here’s what she said 👇🏼 🏦 Kimberley is an Associate Director within Group Treasury at Macquarie, a global financial services organisation headquartered in Sydney. Kimberley works in the London office, as part of the Business and Balance Sheet Team. The team looks at capital, liquidity and funding forecasting and assessing liquidity requirements of new product business proposals along with partnering with the business units to ensure optimal use of the balance sheet. 📚 Her career path began with studying mathematics at the University of Reading, followed by a graduate scheme at PwC where she completed her ACA qualification. Kimberley’s career took shape during the 2008 financial crisis when she worked on the Lehman Brothers administration, which led her to pursue a career in Financial Services. In 2010, she joined Morgan Stanley in the Corporate Treasury department, specialising in Liquidity Risk. After over a decade of experience, she moved to her current position at Macquarie in 2021. Throughout her career, Kimberley has navigated through some of the most challenging market stresses, including Brexit, Covid, and the gas crisis that followed the Russian invasion of Ukraine. 🗣️When asked about the best career advice she’s ever received, Kimberley shared a powerful lesson from Carla Harris: “The biggest decisions about your career are made when you are not in the room.” She stresses how important it is to build strong relationships and find sponsors who can speak on your behalf when you're not there. It’s about having people who can vouch for your capabilities and help influence key decisions in your career. 👱♀️ As a passionate advocate for our programme Maths4Girls and a proud Maths graduate, Kimberley encourages students, especially young women, to embrace Maths and STEM subjects, as they equip you with critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a versatile knowledge base that is highly valued in various industries. By pursuing these fields, you can break barriers, challenge stereotypes, and contribute to innovative solutions in our ever-evolving world. Her message was clear: “Stay curious, stay determined, and don’t be afraid to aim high.” 🩵 We want to thank Kimberley and all the amazing volunteers who have taken the time to share their journeys with us this week. 🔗 If this has inspired you to share your journey, you can become a volunteer here: https://lnkd.in/ejE5NBwC 🔗 If you are an educator & would like to have one of our amazing volunteers you’ve met this week, in your classroom, you can sign up here: https://lnkd.in/gY5R6CuG #NationalCareersWeek #CareerStories #VolunteerSpotlight #F4SCareers

As part of our #NationalCareersWeek celebrations, we had the privilege of interviewing one of our highest rated volunteers, Krina Solanki, a talented Software Developer at Goldman Sachs. She shared her unique career journey and offered invaluable insights for students exploring their career options. 💻 A Day in the Life: Krina works as a full-stack developer, spending her days coding in Java and React. While Java allows her to dive into core backend logic and data management, React lets her express her creative side by designing user-facing elements. 🎓 Her Career Journey: Krina took a unique path into tech through a degree apprenticeship with Goldman Sachs and Queen Mary University of London. Balancing work and study over four years, she gained practical experience while completing her degree. This blend of learning and real-world application helped her build a strong foundation and smoothly transition into a full-time role at Goldman Sachs. 💡 The Best Career Advice Received: Krina shared a memorable piece of advice: “Content is king and relationships are queen.” She highlighted how mastering your skillset (content) and building strong relationships (relationships) can combine to create a fulfilling career. 🚀 Advice for Students: Krina encourages students to keep an open mind when exploring career options. She reflected on how her initial perceptions of software development evolved, showing her that coding isn't just about sitting behind a screen—it's about problem-solving, creativity, and collaboration. She emphasises exploring opportunities thoroughly and not judging roles by their surface descriptions. We’re so grateful to Krina for sharing her story and helping us inspire the next generation of talent. Stay tuned for more volunteer stories throughout #NationalCareersWeek! 🔗 Want to introduce your students to inspiring professionals like Krina?
