Nearly a third of all arrests last month were for suspected domestic abuse related offences. In January, Gloucestershire Police arrested 244 people for domestic abuse, making up nearly a third of all arrests. Most detainees were men, and the data showed a wide range of abuse, including physical violence, controlling behaviour, and emotional abuse. These numbers are already staggering before we consider that most domestic offences go un-reported. Domestic abuse accounts for a large portion of VAWG related crimes. These statistics reinforce the need for a prioritisation towards the prevention of VAWG related offences. It is key that all forces invest appropriate time and resources dedicated to improving victim outcomes and reducing the rate of offences.
