At COP29, the UK announced an ambitious target to reduce all greenhouse gas emissions by at least 81% by 2035 compared to 1990 levels. This target is our Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) under the Paris Agreement, and it is in our national interest; homegrown, clean British energy will help us tackle the climate crisis and free us from relying on volatile fossil fuel markets. Today, we submitted further detail behind our NDC headline target to the UN Climate Change – ahead of the 10 Feb deadline set by the Paris Agreement. The Regional Skills Pilot aims to support British workers across four regions. Funding could go towards new training centres, courses or career advisers - supporting local people into opportunities in industries such as welding, electrical engineering, and construction. The Energy Skills Passport tool will support offshore workers right across the UK. Those seeking to move from the oil and gas sector will be able to identify transferable skills by accessing the skills passport online 👷♀️✅ We caught up with workers from OW Ocean Winds, Statkraft and RWE to find out why they decided to make the transition to working in renewable energy and how others can follow in the same footsteps. Routine checks have identified cases of poor quality solid wall insulation work through the Energy Company Obligation and Great British Insulation schemes. We have taken immediate action, with 39 businesses suspended. These installers must now fix affected homes. No household should be asked to pay money by an installer. https://lnkd.in/geGeG8vr

📢 The CCSA welcomes the UK Government's announcement of regional skills investments to support thousands of new clean energy jobs in the UK’s industrial heartlands, as part of its plan to deliver Clean Power by 2030. 👨🏭 Workers across the UK will benefit from government-backed training programmes, providing pathways into clean energy industries. Key growth regions include Aberdeen, Cheshire, Lincolnshire, and Pembrokeshire, where funding will support local partners in identifying and addressing skills needs. Initiatives could include: 🔹 New training centres 🔹 Career advisors 🔹 Specialist courses for sectors like welding, electrical engineering, and construction 💼 As part of these efforts, the Government has launched a “skills passport” in collaboration with industry and the Scottish Government. This tool will initially help oil and gas workers identify routes into clean energy jobs. 🛠️ The UK’s world-leading energy expertise, gained from our leadership in the North Sea oil and gas sector, must be leveraged to provide the UK’s workforce with pathways into CCUS careers, preserving our competitive edge in this emerging industry. 🔔 The first stage of a new website to help workers move around the UK’s energy mix, including oil and gas and offshore wind, has been launched today by Offshore Energies UK (OEUK) and RenewableUK, supported by the UK and Scottish Governments 🔔 The Energy Skills Passport website is a tool which will enable workers to easily identify which qualifications, such as technical and safety standards, are needed for specific roles in oil and gas and offshore wind, as well as mapping out potential future career pathways within the energy sector. Research commissioned by OEUK shows that 90% per cent of oil and gas workers have skills which can also be applied to renewable energy: ⚡ https://lnkd.in/eeAQFHDT Commenting on the launch, RenewableUK's Executive Director of Offshore Wind Jane Cooper said: “More than a hundred thousand people will be working in the UK’s offshore wind industry by 2030, mostly in highly skilled roles. To grow our world-class industry as fast as possible, we need the valuable experience that oil and gas workers can bring . The Energy Skills Passport which we’re launching today with our OEUK colleagues offers a gateway for people to make this transition by helping them to identify which offshore wind roles which would suit them best, and setting out in detail the training they will need to secure these new job opportunities. It’s a practical tool which demonstrates our determination to bring the tangible benefits of the energy transition to workers right across the energy sector”. 📰 https://lnkd.in/e8BnwjHh The Energy Skills Passport has been launched alongside the Clean Energy Jobs Employer Handbook, which provides an overview of the current skills and workforce offer from Government, aiming to enable clean energy employers to access Government-supported training and workforce development programmes. Containing several case studies to help raise awareness, the Handbook illustrates how employers within the sector can best utilise the public sector tools available to them: 📚 https://lnkd.in/e-EY7z_u
