A recent medical negligence court case revealed fabricated records and negligence, while mentioning EIDO documents as the 'gold standard' in patient information. The 2024 High Court ruling in Deborah Biggadike v Kamilia El-Farra and Sohier El-Neil highlights crucial lessons for healthcare professionals about informed consent, clinical record-keeping, and patient safety. At the heart of the case was whether Ms Biggadike had received Montgomery-compliant consent before undergoing multiple urogynaecological procedures. The judgment found: - El-Farra had followed appropriate consent processes, supported by EIDO patient information leaflets. - El-Neil was found negligent for failing to disclose critical diagnostic results, invalidating consent. - The court ruled that retrospective changes to medical records were fabricated, further undermining trust. The case underscores the role of clear, authoritative patient information in supporting informed decision-making. The judge recognised EIDO Healthcare’s documents as the gold standard [paragraphs 44 and 182] for supporting lawful consent. EIDO Healthcare remains committed to providing high-quality, evidence-based patient information to help clinicians navigate the complexities of informed consent. 🔗 Read our full statement here: https://lnkd.in/eefujSQu

About us
EIDO Healthcare - Delivering trusted digital consent and the proven experts in informed consent for over 20 years offering patient information and education documentation and e-learning resources. EIDO Healthcare produces patient information documents to aid the surgery consent process. This is done by working closely with many Royal Colleges and Associations who endorse the library inc. RCSEng, ASGBI, RCSEd, RCOphth, BAPS, POA among others. EIDO understand the importance of making sure the information patients receive before surgery is easy to read and understand, so we work very closely with the Plain English Campaign. They ensure every single one of the 365+ documents we produce are clear and straightforward. The EIDO documents promote good conversations between clinical staff and patients and help improve those relationships. This is done by very clearly explaining the benefits, alternatives and risks of the procedure they are about to have. All this information is based on national evidence and peer reviewed data. The EIDO documents are reviewed every year to ensure they are inline with all surgical guidelines and meet the relevant CQC requirements.

Data from NHS Resolution shows that NHS Trusts in England that use the EIDO Inform library of surgical patient information report an average of 28% less in payouts for consent-related litigation where ‘failure to warn: informed consent’ is the primary cause. We know that correlation does not equal causation. However, it does highlight the critical role that providing clear, consistent, and accessible procedure information plays in improving patient understanding, helping hospitals meet the guidelines provided by the GMC on decision-making and consent. By empowering patients to make fully informed decisions about their care, Trusts can reduce misunderstandings and improve the overall patient experience. 👉 If your Trust isn’t yet utilising consent resources from EIDO, reach out to explore how we can support you. #InformedConsent #NHS #Patientcare

It’s Day 4 of Health Information Week and today we’re exploring the importance of accessible information, specifically Easy Reads. Easy Read leaflets are created for patients with learning disabilities and those who have trouble processing information. Easy Reads explain surgical procedures in a way that is easier to understand, with images next to each statement to help patients process the information they’re given. Developed in partnership with accessible information organisation Making it Clear, EIDO Easy Reads meet the Accessible Information Standard. We have 72 Easy Read leaflets across a range of surgical specialties and a number of those are also available in Welsh. We’re committed to making sure all patients get the information they deserve in language they can understand. Growing our Easy Read library is a priority here at EIDO, helping support learning and empowering patients to make their own decisions. #HealthInformationWeek #AccessibleInformation #EasyReads #EIDOHealthcare

As we celebrate Health Information Week, today we’re shining a light on how digital solutions can transform patient care and empower informed decision-making. At EIDO, our digital consent platform is designed to meet the challenges of modern healthcare, combining technology with our trusted, evidence-based content. By making patient information accessible anytime, anywhere, we support patients in understanding their treatment options and give clinicians the tools they need to facilitate clear, informed conversations. Digital consent goes beyond convenience—it’s about enhancing patient safety and improving outcomes. Our platform integrates seamlessly with healthcare systems, providing a comprehensive, auditable record of the consent process. This transparency reduces the risk of miscommunication and ensures patients are fully informed every step of the way. Health Information Week is a good reminder that informed consent isn’t just a formality—it’s a cornerstone of patient-centred care. At EIDO, we’re proud to be part of the digital transformation that’s making healthcare more accessible, equitable, and informed. #HealthInformationWeek #DigitalConsent #PatientSafety #InformedConsent #DigitalHealth

It’s day one of Health Information Week, and at EIDO, we’re reflecting on the vital role language plays in creating clear, accessible, and accurate patient information. Our work with linguistic researcher Emma McClaughlin and her colleagues at Nottingham University exemplifies this commitment. Using the corpus approach to language, we can make sure that the information in EIDO documents is not only medically precise but also easily understood by patients and their families. By analysing real-world language usage, Emma is able to identify patterns that help us craft content that is clear, empathetic, and resonates with those who need it most. This work is especially important in sensitive areas, such as pregnancy loss and cancer treatment, where language has the power to either comfort or inadvertently harm. Through collaboration with linguists, we aim to humanise clinical terms, ensuring they support rather than hinder a patient’s understanding and emotional wellbeing. Accessible, plain language is central to improving health literacy and fostering informed consent. As we celebrate Health Information Week, we reaffirm our commitment to producing patient information that supports safer care, better outcomes, and stronger relationships between clinicians and patients. Keep an eye out as we will be posting daily in celebration of Health information Week! #HealthInformationWeek #PatientInformation #InformedConsent #HealthLiteracy #EIDO
