A fantastic visit — thank you for highlighting the pioneering work happening every day at Culham Campus. As the home of UK Atomic Energy Authority and the STEP and H3AT programmes, we’re proud to be the location powering the UK’s fusion energy future. Culham Campus isn’t just where innovation happens — it’s where partnerships grow, talent thrives, and net zero becomes reality. 🌍⚡
Inspiring visit to the UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) campus in Oxford today with Sean Fox, Chris Dale and Kevin Carvill MRICS. It was fascinating to see firsthand how our Project & Programme Services and Nuclear & Power teams are supporting UKAEA’s mission to lead the global charge towards sustainable fusion energy. Here are just a few standout facts that really brought the scale of this work to life: 🧑🏫 Fusion Futures is transforming the UK’s fusion ecosystem by engaging over 800 young people and collaborating with 300+ partners across industry and academia. ♻️ The H3AT Tritium Loop Facility, being developed with Eni, will be the world’s most advanced tritium fuel cycle facility, pioneering research into tritium processing, storage and recycling. 🔋 The STEP (Spherical Tokamak for Energy Production) programme is a cornerstone of the UK’s Industrial Strategy, aiming to deliver a prototype fusion power plant at West Burton by the early 2030s. Proud that we’re playing a part in helping realise this bold and vital mission. The future of clean energy is being built right here.

🚀 Global Science, Made in Culham At Culham Campus, we're proud to be the UK home of pioneering engineering and innovation that shapes the future of fusion and beyond. One of our standout contributions? Supporting the European Spallation Source ERIC (ESS) in Sweden—a world-leading radioactive waste processing facility using fully remote operation and robotics. At the heart of this international collaboration is UK Atomic Energy Authority’s RACE (Remote Applications in challenging Environments), based here at Culham. 🔧 From wire saws to robotic manipulators, key components of ESS’s Hot Cells were developed and tested right here in our world-class facilities in Oxfordshire. 💡 As Nick Sykes, Director of RACE, puts it: “The ESS Active Cells is a perfect case study for the type of facility that fusion will need... it's developing the technology and systems that will be really needed for Fusion in the future.” Why does this matter? ✔️ Culham is a key player in building the global fusion supply chain ✔️ Our expertise in remote handling and hazardous environment maintenance is setting new standards ✔️ We’re not just delivering technology—we’re shaping the infrastructure for clean energy worldwide This project is another reason why Culham Campus is the heart of fusion innovation in the UK. 🎥 Watch the behind-the-scenes video and learn more: 🔗 https://lnkd.in/eHFwpjiU 🎬 https://lnkd.in/ejDKHjUy #CulhamCampus #FusionInnovation #RemoteHandling #RACEUKAEA #ESS #NetZero #FusionEnergy #Robotics #EngineeringExcellence #CleanEnergyFuture

🔧 Innovating for Fusion: Advanced 3D Printing at Culham Campus 🔬 Two new state-of-the-art additive manufacturing machines have been commissioned by the UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA) at its recently opened Central Support Facility (CSF) at Culham Campus – accelerating the development of future fusion energy components. The new technologies – an eMELT Electron Beam Powder Bed Fusion machine and a Selective Laser Manufacturing (SLM280) machine – use complementary 3D printing methods to create complex, high-performance parts needed for fusion power plants. These machines allow precision layering of advanced materials like tungsten, copper chrome zirconium, and Eurofer 97, enabling components to withstand the extreme conditions of a fusion environment. 💡 Located in the heart of the UK’s fusion and AI cluster, the CSF brings together high-tech workshops, R&D, and manufacturing expertise, helping to reduce reliance on traditional fabrication methods and scale production for the next generation of energy infrastructure. This investment underscores Culham Campus as the UK’s centre for fusion innovation – supporting research, commercial partnerships, and the industrialisation of fusion energy. ➡️ Find out more: https://lnkd.in/e_SSCEBD #FusionEnergy #3DPrinting #Innovation #CulhamCampus #UKAEA #NetZero
