Week 4 at Business Gateway East Renfrewshire's #BuildEastRenfrewshire: Insights and Inspiration The last session of this year at Barrhead Housing Association Ltd was another brilliant opportunity to gain insights into the construction industry, featuring talks from some big hitters of the construction industry. Here's what stood out: KIER Construction Huge thanks to Laura Brown and Paul McAdam for their insightful presentation. I'll admit I felt a bit embarrassed not knowing Kier Construction is the largest construction company in Scotland. In the year to March 2023, Kier secured £1.4 billion in work from the government, more than any other company—lesson learned! Their discussion about the challenges of organising staff for long-term projects in remote locations was a fascinating peek into the complexities of large-scale construction. CCG (Scotland) Ltd Chris Murray with the aid of Fraser Hatton, and SCOTT MCLAUGHLAN gave a fantastic overview of CCG’s portfolio, with a particular focus on inspiring retrofit projects. Their exploration of renewable energy challenges and opportunities left me eager to learn more about how we can integrate sustainable practices into our work. I would also love to see their prefab kit manufacturing site in the future! Stewart Macgregor Stewart tackled the post-Domino’s pizza slot like a pro! He opened my eyes to the potential of cooperative partnerships for securing larger-scale projects—a concept I hadn’t considered, despite my background with Credit Unions. Sandy Rose Sandy’s guidance on the tendering process was invaluable. The emphasis on laying a strong groundwork to make future tendering smoother resonated with me. It's clear there's a lot of preparation involved, but it seems well worth the effort for long-term success. With the next phase of the programme starting in January, I’m thrilled we signed up. Not only am I gaining a deeper understanding of the construction sector, but I’m also discovering the wealth of business support networks available. A huge thanks to Scott Arnot and Colin McNally for their continued support.
