📣 John Swinney, Scotland’s First Minister and leader of the Scottish National Party, highlights the need to greenlight the The Acorn Project in his recent speech on climate action. 🗨️ Speaking at the Glasgow Botanic Gardens last week, the First Minister referred to Scotland’s technical expertise and capacity for innovation as key contributions to the global climate challenge, and urged the UK Government to give "a green light to the crucially important Acorn CCS project in Buchan," which can unlock new opportunities for Grangemouth and support a just transition. The Acorn Project, a Track-2 project part of the Scottish Cluster, will significantly boost Scotland's and the UK's decarbonisation efforts by providing critical infrastructure for CO₂ transport and storage. Its legacy pipelines have the potential to transport up to 20 Million tonnes per annum of CO₂. ❗ While the recent £21.7 billion funding commitment to HyNet and the East Coast Cluster is a positive step, the UK Government must now provide long-term certainty and funding for Track-1, Track-2, and Track-1 Expansion projects, alongside other CCUS projects, to secure the UK's position as a global leader in clean energy. It is crucial to maintain the momentum on CCUS and ensure the UK remains at the forefront of the energy transition. 🔎 Learn more about Acorn here: https://lnkd.in/efzVRQWT #CCUS | #CarbonCapture | #NetZero

Yesterday, our Head of EU External Affairs, Stefano Miriello, chaired a meeting of the Brussels Sustainability Club on the upcoming Clean Industrial Deal. Together with Philippe Lamberts, Advisor to President von der Leyen, MEP François-Xavier Bellamy, and Matthieu Auzanneau, Director of the Shift Project, they discussed expectations for the Deal and its impact on the future of EU competitiveness and decarbonisation. 📝 As we prepare for its publication next week, we look forward to continued collaboration with the European Commission and Parliament to make sure that the Deal serves as a key opportunity to strengthen European industries, enabling them to meet net zero on time while remaining competitive in the EU. #NetZero | #CCUS | #CarbonCapture | #CID

The National Infrastructure Commission’s latest report underscores the urgent need for a “step change” in investment in Great Britain’s local electricity networks to support the journey to net zero. ⚡ With electricity demand set to double by 2050, delivering a flexible and reliable grid will require: ✅ Proactive network planning to support industrial customers and large generators ✅ Stronger incentives for Distribution Network Operators (DNOs) to modernise infrastructure ✅ A robust, forward-thinking supply chain to meet growing energy demands As we transition to net zero, providing low-carbon, on-demand power—such as gas with CCUS will be crucial for keeping the lights on when the sun isn’t shining, and the wind isn’t blowing. Strategic system planning must integrate CCUS to ensure a stable, future-ready energy system. 📝 Read the full report here: https://lnkd.in/eHD3mGhw #CCUS | #CarbonCapture | #NetZero

Mark Sommerfeld, UK Director, on behalf of the CCSA Welcomes Appointment of Dan McGrail as Interim CEO of Great British Energy 🔹 Dan brings extensive experience in the clean energy sector, and his leadership will be crucial in delivering a secure, low-carbon energy system. We look forward to continuing to work with him in his new role. 👷♀️ CCUS has an important role to play as part of the GB Energy’s work to deliver on the Government’s Plan for Change and mission to be a clean energy superpower. 💡 To reach Clean Power by 2030, 81% emissions reductions by 2035, and net zero by 2050, we need to utilise CCUS across the UK’s industrial heartlands. It will enable the decarbonisation of foundational industries such as cement, chemicals and manufacturing, while providing on-demand low-carbon power to complement renewable energy sources. 🤝 The CCSA continues to work with the Great British Energy team to ensure strategic investments and innovative solutions are effectively deployed, driving the UK towards its climate commitments and establishing its position as leader in CCUS and a clean energy superpower. #CCUS #NetZero #GreatBritishEnergy

📰 "Enabling a Europe-wide CO2 storage market across the EU/EEA and the UK would result in 20% cost saving - €11 per tonne - for European emitters using offshore CO2 storage,” said CCSA Head of EU External Affairs Stefano Miriello. It's important that policymakers on both sides of the Channel make sure to remove all obstacles to making this a reality: any delay in enabling cross-border solution would lock emitters into higher-cost storage.
