❄️ Winter is coming - as is the (new) Demand Flexibility Service ❄️ DFS is designed to help the grid at its most strained — typically winter’s coldest evenings. Instead of firing up gas power plants, consumers and demand-side assets are paid to reduce their consumption. Ofgem have approved DFS to return from this Wednesday the 27th, with new rules that’ll likely result in lower earnings for most. In previous years, the grid paid upward of £2/kWh, across a dozen or so events. This year, prices will be as much as 90% lower, but most likely across many more events. For consumers, it may no longer be worth it to turn off lights and appliances if the reward is only a few p. But there is a silver lining for fully automated participants, like batteries and heat pumps. Unlike in previous years, DFS can now be ‘stacked’, meaning an asset can simultaneously participate in DFS and other flexibility services. Since joining he's orchestrated the charging of tens of thousands of EV's 🚙, revamped 3 client dashboards💄, and led one life-drawing class ✍🏽
