Meet inspirational Lauren 👋 She was only four years old when her parents began to foster for the first time. Now in her 20s, with a young family of her own and working as a lecturer at her local college, Lauren still supports the children that her mum currently fosters ❤️ “Fostering has had a positive impact on me. I’ve gained a lot of experience and know how to talk to different people. It’s also made me brave and as an adult, I am now more confident with dealing and understanding different behaviours in the classroom when I’m at work.” Lauren is a wonderful example of how growing up within a fostering household can develop you as a person and give you valuable skills for life: “My advice to anyone thinking of fostering with birth children at home would be to consider how you feel it will impact your children. Let them be part of the decision to help you decide on whether you foster. As a birth child from a fostering household, I can say fostering does give you the skills you benefit from in later life". If you are interested in fostering, or know someone who is, you can find out more about the process here: https://bit.ly/3EDezXt #Fostering #YouCanCareWeek

The theme for this year’s LGBT History Month is Activism & Social Change, which highlights the importance of standing up for LGBTQ+ rights and mental health support 🏳️🌈 Sadly, young people in this community are twice as likely to experience poor mental health. They also face multiple barriers to accessing the care they need. There are multiple ways you could offer support to the LGBTQ+ community with their mental health. This includes advocating for more inclusion in schools and workplaces. We were delighted to welcome our Patron, the Princess of Wales, to our Mother and Baby Unit (MBU) at HMP Styal yesterday. The Princess of Wales took time to meet with staff and service users, shining a light on the important work that ensures babies get the best chance to thrive in a supportive environment. “It was an absolute pleasure to welcome our Patron to Action for Children’s Mother and Baby Unit. The Princess took time to talk to our staff about how our service works to ensure these babies don’t miss out and to give them the best chance of a positive future. She also spent time with some of the mums and babies to understand the importance of the service, which is very much aligned to our Patron’s emphasis on early years development.” Amanda Taylor, Operational Director of Children's Services. #HRH #ThePrincessOfWales #ActionForChildren 📸 Andrew Parsons / Kensington Palace.
