Poster presented at: The Symposium on Advanced Wound Care (SAWC) Fall 2021

Wound care professionals will continue to be in demand, as the population older than 65 years is projected to grow by 25% by 2060. Wound care clinicians usually have diverse training / experience / background, which can lead to inconsistent care and result in poor outcomes. To standardize and improve healthcare professionals' knowledge level, the Joint Commission recommends developing a competency program. However, consistently ensuring clinicians’ competency is difficult, given time and resource constraints.

    OBJECTIVE
To address these obstacles, we aimed to create a solution to overcome obstacles in wound care competency development, management and documentation.

    CONCLUSIONS
A solution to accelerate wound care competency development, management and documentation was created. Users’ reported benefits include care standardization, increased efficiency in employee onboarding / orientation, and ability to track competencies for employee development, licensure, certification and facility accreditation.

  • Development of a New App to Analyze Clinical Trial Data

Poster presented at: The Symposium on Advanced Wound Care (SAWC) Fall 2018

We validated a novel software application that extracts all the pertinent clinical trial information from clinicaltrials.gov into a user-friendly interface to pinpoint clinical research trends--in this case we looked at Advanced Wound Care (AWC). Specifically, we utilized the software to examine new diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) device and drug development trends. Most areas for improvement were related to the wrong classifications and breadth of jargon found on clinicaltrials.gov . We concluded…

We concluded that the software has applicability to not only identify not only the research trends, but the investigators most experienced in certain types of trials and/or modalities, as well as the organizations supporting or "funding" such trials, too. We concluded that such a tool has relevance and utility beyond just AWC, and has value to a variety of AWC stakeholders.
