Ratings: CBS’ Beyond the Gates Draws 78% Bigger Audience Than The Talk
Beyond the Gates has CBS Daytime fans in a lather.
The first new daytime drama to hit our screens in 25 years is thus far averaging 2.28 million total viewers (with Live+3 playback), an improvement of 78% on what time slot predecessor The Talk averaged in 2024.
Playing a role in that gain is the fact that the three-day streaming numbers for Beyond the Gates are up 7,411% from The Talk‘s.
Beyond the Gates enjoys a 13.6% gain in viewers with Live+3 playback, stronger than both CBS’ The Young and the Restless (10.9%) and The Bold and the Beautiful (12.6%).
The linear-only audience for Beyond the Gates‘ opening week was virtually tied with that of ABC’s General Hospital (2.02 million), while drawing a higher rating with the 25-54 target audience.
CBS notes that the Beyond the Gates audience is comprised of 55% Black viewers, higher than Y&R (29%), B&B (30%) and GH (22%).
The Live+7 audience for Beyond the Gates‘ series premiere stands at a full 3 million viewers, slightly higher than the previous soap opera launch, NBC’s Passions, which drew 2.96 million in the more “live watching”-y era of July 1999. And Beyond the Gates‘ premiere mustered an audience share of 9 compared to Passions‘ 7, meaning it nabbed a larger portion of people watching TV.
TVLine readers gave Beyond the Gates‘ series premiere an average grade of “A-.”
The right decision was made to replace that loser The Talk, 78% is huge for Beyond the Gates. Hopefully, this motivates ABC to bring back All My Children and One Life to Live as half-hour soaps.
I agree but it also costs a lot more to make than The Talk too.
Ratings numbers aren’t everything.

But there is truth to the cost statement. And networks make decisions based on that true. I love Tamara, so I wish this project the best.

It’s great that the show is off to a good start, but to compare it to The Talk is really, really misleading.
That’s a completely unfair comment. He’s right that a soap that requires a lot of cast, sets, costumes, etc. probably costs triple what a 1 hour talk show does. I wouldn’t read into it any deeper than that.
Lay off the body lotion and hush.
Good thing is it’s not produced in NY or LA which cuts production costs
Why do I get the feeling you hate watched every episode of The Talk? I wouldn’t be surprised if “this loser” gets canceled after a year or less. Let’s see you get smug then.
No,1hour soaps,just don’t hire any of the writers from B&B and GH.
Personally I can’t see any reason to instantly start a new show with infidelity!! Obviously you have no idea how many women this affect!! Instant fighting, lying & with cheating within the first week or so!! Ratings??! Huh? We’ll see!! Yes my PTSD has been awaken, again & will not bother this show!! There’s nothing family oriented to this show, just crap!! Love CBS, yet very disappointed!!
Well deserved! Hope it continues to grow because the show is fun to watch and at least tries to bring back old school soapy drama.
It’s a soap opera. Go watch PBS Kids if regular soap opera antics bother you.
It’s a soap! No offense but what did you expect on a soap besides lying, fighting and cheating? Except maybe an evil twin, a stolen baby and a long lost brother back from the dead… Now, if they had had those last 3 on the first week I would agree maybe. I think you’re confusing family oriented (since the shows about certain families) with family friendly.
Is this the first time you have ever watched a soap opera? What are you going to do when the characters die and come back to life a year later? Or get possessed by the devil? You should stick to reading self-help books rather than watching daytime TV.
there is no soap opera in the history of time that has never not had a infidelity storyline heck bold and the beautiful had Be Logan jumping from son to father and it is still airing lol

Well, that pretty much sounds like every soap that’s on television right now…ijs. The entire idea behind the opening week was to start the stories behind all the characters. If you’re gonna launch a new show, ya’ gotta bring it! That’s why the ratings are where they are. With a all female production team(first time ever btw), this show is bringing it. BTW, did you know the characters are based on real life people? Loving the show and can’t wait for the Daytime Emmy Awards!! Don’t like it…stop watching…there ya’ go… problem solved.
It’s a soap opera. Soaps are based on drama and mess. If a soap doesn’t have infidelity I would be extremely disappointed. This show is great.
Is not a family show. Soaps are steamy and drama filled. Perhaps not the show for you. That’s OK..plenty more shows on
I was very disappointed! No real introduction to anything! It all seemed very stiff ! I don’t think any of the writers on any shows care about anyone’s emotions. I lost a baby and I feel the pain when every pregnancy happens.
It’s such a a good show! I’m happy people are tuning in.
I haven’t watched a soap since my college days, All My Children, One Life to Live, General Hospital. So far, I’ve seen episode one of Gates. It definitely can’t compare to the three I mentioned previously. The acting is not very good. Hopefully it’ll pick up in the next few episodes.
I watched AMC and OLTL in college also. I don’t remember any of the acting stellar.

15 minutes into episode 2, reminds me of a high school one act play.
It’s actually really good and I don’t watch soaps but this one got me hooked. The actress that plays Danni is killing it in that role.
That’s lie the talk had a very big audience that’s why they lasted so long. So please please bring it back the talk please please.

This soap has to get better or I’m out. There are a lot of needy women and Dani is miscast. The actress is too young for the part and plus she’s overacting. Give her a job and recast her. The young cast members seem to be talking mannequins without much substance. Are these characters going to continue just falling into bed? That gets very boring very fast.
There’s potential so I’ll stick with it for now.

I agree. The actress who plays Dani is hard to watch. Over doing the acting. I crack up when she gets that wild eyed look. I’m hoping in time all the actors find their footing. I better script/dialogue would help. But it’s new so I’m not giving up on it. The cast is over the Top gorgeous/handsome.
Dani definitely reminds me of Teresa from Passions. They get that same crazy look in their eyes.
You’ve taken the words out of my mouth! I like the actress that plays Dani, but she’s way overacting in this part , and miscast in my opinion. I’ll give it another week or so to get to know the characters more. But as of now, I’m not thrilled with the show.
This is Awesome! I don’t watch soaps, but anytime a scripted show is having success rather than a reality or talk/debate show, I’m happy! Hope they continue to do well!
Soap operas have huge casts and extensive sets. They are very costly to produce. It helps if they have international distribution rights and get money that way also. But it is a good start.
I started recording/watching it day one because I wanted it to do well in the ratings. My hopes were that if it did well it would encourage the return of All My Children on ABC. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that it’s also a pretty good show so going to keep watching it. Still crossing my fingers for AMC.
Why did CBS shut down for the hour that Beyond The Gate episode came on and return broadcasting the next program as soon as the hour was up,it just seem so strange to me when this show has capture a lot of viewers. Seem to me someone have a problem with this new soap.My friends and i was really disappointed with the situation we were braced to watch todays episode, 3/06/2025.
If what I think happened today, if I perceived it right, I will not be watching it ! A man was talking with a woman in a bar…he asked her somethng, she responded like I thought u would never ask. He leads her out of the bar…they run into his wife…he introduces them
Then the wife either kisses her or whispers in her ear. If that was a set up for a threesome I will not be watching!!

I Love this soap opera. It opened with a bang and it’s still banging. Love the actors especially Danni ! She already should have an Emmy nod. Love the wardrobe, set decorations , and the prestigious nature of the show ! Bravo for the common sense dialogue! Congratulations to the writers ! Bravo to Beyond the Gates!

This is a good show! It is a soap opera from beginning to end. I love the threescore inference at the end of today’s episode. The actress playing Dani does need to have more expressions than the “wide-eyed, never blink” one that she apparently is set in stone to deliver. Hey, just have some escapists fun.
The show has potential, yet certain performances require enhancement. While I understand the challenge of memorizing extensive dialogue, other soap actors manage to excel under similar circumstances. I would prefer the narrative style to resemble that of ABC Soaps, focusing more on storytelling rather than the format typical of Tyler Perry productions. I appreciate the portrayals of the more experienced actors, although some of the less seasoned cast members could improve their delivery. The frequent commercials are somewhat distracting, prompting me to opt for the livestream. Nevertheless, I will continue to follow the show and observe the development of the storylines.

Acting is terrible. So bad!
BTGs is so huge. I love the high quality of the sets, wardrobe, actors and writing. It is new and I see plots I can look forward to. The older soaps are all in a rut. Stale.
