The wait for new Bridgerton episodes has been dreadful — Season 2 was released back in March 2022 — but here’s some news that may offer a reprieve: We finally have a premiere date!
Netflix has announced that Season 3, which will debut in two, four-episode batches, is headed your way this summer. Part 1 will arrive on Thursday, May 16, followed by Part 2 on Thursday, June 13.
After Penelope (played by Nicola Coughlan) overheard Colin (Luke Newton) insult her last season, the upcoming episodes will see her move on from that longstanding crush, having decided “it’s time to take a husband, preferably one who will provide her with enough independence to continue her double life as Lady Whistledown, far away from her mother and sisters,” per the official synopsis. But lacking in confidence, Penelope’s attempts to secure a marriage proposal “fail spectacularly.”
Meanwhile Colin, who returned from his summer travels with newfound swagger, will be “disheartened to realize that Penelope, the one person who always appreciated him as he was, is giving him the cold shoulder.” Eager to win back her friendship, he offers to help her find a husband and must grapple with whether his feelings for her are “truly just friendly.”
Plus, Penelope’s estranged friend Eloise (Claudia Jessie) “has found a new friend in a very unlikely place,” while “Penelope’s growing presence in the Ton makes it all the more difficult to keep her Lady Whistledown alter ego a secret.”
New casting additions include Daniel Francis (Once Upon a Time) as Marcus Anderson, who, while charming, earns the ire of some members of the Ton; Sam Phillips (The Crown) as Lord Debling, a genial lord with unusual interests; and James Phoon as Harry Dankworth, who isn’t particularly smart but possesses seriously good looks.
Season 3 will also feature a few casting shakeups: Original cast member Phoebe Dynevor, who played Daphne Bridgerton in the first two seasons, will not be back this season. Additionally, Hannah Dodd (Flowers in the Attic: The Origin, Anatomy of a Scandal) will replace Ruby Stokes as Francesca.
Writer Jess Brownell has been bumped to showrunner, taking over for series creator Chris Van Dusen (who remains an executive producer alongside Shonda Rhimes, Betsy Beers and Tom Verica).
Netflix is doing this more and more often. It’s only a matter of time before they just wise up and release shows weekly — which is the right strategy.
Before long, streaming services will stretch out releases. I’d guess 2 eps per week, over a month or so.
.
And commercials.
.
As you imply, it is the ONLY way to make money.
Aside from Netflix, every other streamer is largely doing this. There’s the occasional binge drop, but most are weekly. The most common release pattern being 2 or 3 episodes the first day then once weekly.
That’s insane that we have to wait over two years for the next season. They had already finished filming so it’s not due to the strikes. Just Netflix being Netflix I guess!
It very much was affected by strikes, you do realize the strikes prevented post podruction work. Who was recording dubbed lines, who was filming reshoots, who was working on the script for reshoots and rewrites, who would’ve done promo tours or interviews prior to the release. these things don’t just magically happen because filming is done there’s so much more work that goes into making tv shows and movies. Y’all literally sound ungrateful AF, you had season 2 in 2022 and the Charlotte spin-off this year, some of you realize that 1)other shows like stranger things have gone almost 3-4 years between seasons 4) 2-3 years is the norm between seasons of most international shows 3)people demanding things like you are the reason we literally had to have the strikes in the first place because all you guys care about is getting your shows out as fast as possible regardless if that meant people were being properly compensated or treated fairly, so congrats on being part of the problem
Y’all can downvote me all you want it hurts when you’re hit with facts that not one person has disputed. You can moan and Byron’s all you want that doesn’t change the facts about the logistics when it comes to actually producing tv shows and movies have a great week
Moan and Groan*
I wish all Streaming Services would finally embrace the weekly episode release format. I feel dropping all episodes at once is basically a form of “inflation” in the tv world and it lessens the value of episodes and shows. I like being able to watch an episode and have a week to digest it and really just think about that episode. Nowadays I have to watch out for the people that stay up all night to watch an Season drop and then immediately post stuff about it all, then i’m trying to quickly watch episodes so that I don’t get accidentally spoiled and then i’m not able embrace individual episodes as I should’ve.
Agreed and I don’t know why so many people here are against it when it has been happening more often in other streamers from Amazon, Hulu, Apple+ and even Paramount+ does it. Disney+ also does it. It’s also the best way to keep active and conversation and hype of series across weeks instead of just releasing everything in one ago where it can die down within the first 2 weeks and people move on.
Too many people with an id problem
Way too long between seasons — that needs to change because 2 years is just ridiculous.
The day Netflix switch to weekly is the day I cancel my subscription.
I’ll be tempted to cancel if they continue with this half-season release strategy, but weekly releases will compel me to cancel without a second thought.
I just wait until all the episodes drop, it’s been two years an extra month won’t kill me. That way I can watch it all at once.
I’ll also wait until all the episodes drop, I just won’t pay for them if it goes weekly.
Why so long of a wait if the show is finished? It’s not like it’ll miss any major awards or conflict with Stranger Things or even need half the production that Stranger Things does. I’m getting annoyed with Netflix.
Probably yo spread out thier releases over the year and have a “big “release each quarter.Plus with likely limited new content due to the strikes they have readout what new releases they have while they produce more/new
Doesn’t this division of episodes mess up its Emmy eligibility since the episode drops will straddle 2 eligibility periods?
It actually “doubles” its eligibility, since the first batch is eligible for this year, back half for next. –Mgmt.
Right, but can a show compete in the series categories with only 4 episodes in an eligibility period? Or will more episodes be available in each batch?
Yeah, I’m done. This is ridiculous. We were told in June “soon” and it would this year. I get that there would be a bit of a delay because of the strikes, but this is insane. Shonda, or someone with the show said even before the strike was a possibility that they had already finished editing season three. So they did not have that much left to do. I was going to give it till March, but I will not wait half a year. I’m not going to bother watching it again. So I’m going to go ahead and cancel Netflix. I was already considering it and this just validates my reasons. I may re-sign back up to watch the last season of stranger things , but then I’m completely done with Netflix.
I’m so looking forward finnaly for Bridgerton to return. .so excited to see Penelope & Colin to finnaly be together. I love all the characters.. one of my favorite shows. I also the one about Queen Charlotte..loved it
So excited! I for one will be watching the first 4 episodes of this upcoming season, and then watching the other 4 when those come out. It is really not that long between episode drops.
As far as the time between season 2 & 3, I agree that it was quite some time, but I think rather than be angry it took so long, we should be thankful that we now have a release date!
