Beacon 23 and The Winter King Not Returning on MGM+ (Exclusive)
A former TV queen and current TV king are both ending their short-lived reigns on MGM+. Neither Beacon 23 nor The Winter King will return to the streamer for additional seasons, TVLine has learned.
Loosely based on Hugh Howey’s short story of the same name, Beacon 23 stars Lena Headey (Game of Thrones) and Stephan James (Homecoming) as Aster and Halan, individuals who end up in confinement together at the furthest reaches of the universe. The sci-fi series streamed for two seasons from 2023 to 2024, totaling 16 episodes.
The Winter King is a British historical fiction series based on Bernard Cornwell’s Warlord Chronicles books, starring Iain De Caestecker (Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.) as warlord Arthur Pendragon, the exiled, illegitimate son of King Uther. The Winter King streamed in 2023 for one 10-episode season.
TVLine hears that either or both series could ostensibly be shopped to other outlets. (Beacon 23, you may recall, was originally ordered by Spectrum Originals, which shut down two years ago. The Winter King, meanwhile, was a co-production with ITV.)

I liked them both… but dropped MGM+ for lack of new content.
It is hard to justify subscribing when most of the movies end up on other services and there aren’t many series, when there are already so many other things I have not watched. But I would check out The Winter King (and maybe both) if on different services I do get.

I loved the winter king. Such a great take on the king Arther story. Hopefully itv shops it to another network or streaming service

The great thing about imported shows is until ITV says no to making more Winter King it isn’t actually canceled
I watched and enjoyed both Beacon 23 and Winter king. Am extremely disappointed that they aren’t renewed. For awhile mgm was the best network for new and exciting series. Not so much now.
Sorry I didn’t understand your post.. the winter king is not continuing on the same channel but can continue if another channel will pick it up. It’s not canceled “really “

Very disappointed, these were 2 of my favorite shows. I’m running out of shows to watch and I don’t appreciate it at all!

The Winter King was an incredible series and I am devastated to find out there will not be a season 2. I truly hope another outlet picks up the series because I subscribed to MGM just for The Winter King and will be canceling my subscription now that it will not be returning.

I struggled with both series. I think I got through two eps of The Winter King. I watched the first season of Beacon 23 but it was boring mostly. Still have season 2 queued but never an interest to watch it. Am waiting for From season 3 though!

The Winter King was an excellent series. I had hoped it would return for a second season.
Beacon 23 started strong and then drifted into…. I have no idea. Couldn’t finish season 2 it was so bad. Winter king also started strong and then…. Meh. My guess is they both saw huge drops in viewership.
Spot on with Beacon 23. First season was interesting, but I was out partway through the first episode of season 2. They were trying to make what was basically an AI robot sympathetic. Sorry. I just can’t go there. I don’t even talk to Alexa…
Seriously these are 2 good shows that leave room for another story. I will be extremely disappointed if these shows aren’t picked up by another network. I’m so tired of networks dropping good shows!
Beacon 23 season 2 was terrible. I’m a loyalist to my shows and always try to stick it out, but after a promising and entertaining season one, it turned into something else that wasn’t even entertaining.
I am very disappointed to hear that both shows have been dropped. MGM+ should rethink their decision. The idea is to have shows that bring high ratings and both of these shows did just that. I truly loved both shows and was very anxious for season 2 of winter king to come back. Totally baffling why networks do these things.
