Chucky hasn’t finished terrorizing Hackensack just yet: Syfy and USA Network have renewed the horror series for a second season, which will air next year.
“We’re thrilled to start pulling the strings on a second season of puppet mayhem with Chucky,” executive producer Don Mancini said in a statement. “Many thanks to our partners at USA, Syfy and UCP for their incredible support and guidance bringing Chucky to the small screen, bigger than ever. And to the fans, Chucky sends his still-undying thanks, and a message: ‘This isn’t over, not by a long shot. You better watch your backs in 2022!'”
In the small-screen iteration of the long-running Child’s Play franchise, the Good Guy doll-turned-psychopath sets his sights on new victim Jake (Transparent‘s Zackary Arthur), who became acquainted with Chucky after finding him at a neighborhood tag sale. Of course, it didn’t take long for the bodies to start piling up, as Jake and his friends worked together to stop the murderous madness.
Chucky has found an audience, too: It’s the year’s second highest-rated new cable series in the key 18-49 demo, behind only fellow Syfy series Resident Alien. Across all platforms, Chucky‘s freshman season has reached a total of 9.5 million viewers. The Season 1 finale airs this Tuesday at 10/9c, and the full season will be available to stream on Peacock beginning Wednesday, Dec. 1.
Franchise veteran Jennifer Tilly reprises her role as Tiffany Valentine, in addition to Alex Vincent (who plays Andy Barclay) and Christine Elise (as Kyle). Rounding out the cast are Devon Sawa (Final Destination), Teo Briones (Ratched), Alyvia Alyn Lind (Daybreak) and Björgvin Arnarson (The Seventh Day). Original voice actor Brad Dourif also returns as the voice of Chucky.
Mancini — who wrote the original Child’s Play film and all six sequels, in addition to directing three of the films — serves as creator, showrunner and executive producer.
TVLine’s Cable Scorecard has been updated to reflect the news. Thrilled that Chucky’s story will continue? Sound off in the Comments below.
Any word on episode order? The first season’s length feels very COVID-impacted so I’m wondering if there will be an increase in season 2
I have read three other articles on the renewal and there is no mention of the number of episodes for season 2. Considering Curse of Chucky is the longest film in the franchise at 97 minutes (and only one other film is over 90 minutes), my guess the decision to do 8 episodes was related to how much story can we tell for a season and had nothing to do with Covid.
This show is incredible. Way better than the movies.
I agree and disagree. I feel it was less covid and more they only got 8 episodes so jammed a lot in not knowing if they’d get another season. I would be surprised if season 2 is more than 8-10 episodes, but w the getting a second season vibe it’ll still be good but better plotted and planned
YAY! This made my week and it’s only Monday.
Yay I’m so happy about this news. I love the characters, story & of course Chucky. Thank you Scj Fi.
Nice. I was surprised by how well done the show is.
i love chucky
This is great news. As a life-long Chucky fan, this show has been a real pleasant surprise.
This seriously made my day!! And to hear that it is cable’s 2nd highest rated new show in the magic demo was even better.
I hope next season, they just increase to 10 episodes. I feel that is a nice round number. No need to go higher than that
Haven’t seen it yet but even I’m glad it got renewed. After the film studios screwed over Mancini because they wanted to reboot rather than continue the original story it’s nice to see him getting some vindication as to why a continuation was the better route.
I’m as far from a Chucky target audience member as one can be and yet this series is currently my favorite. My friends think I’m batty because I rewatch every episode several times and devour every article or interview. No one seems to understand how captivated I am by sweet, lovable little Chucky. I just tell folks that I’ve finally found my spirit animal! So happy with this renewal news!
Great news! I went in with low expectations and it has really surprised me. Any word on Day of the Dead (also on Sy Fy) getting renewed? Another campy fun time!
I love Day of the Dead as well but the ratings have been close to the lowest SyFy shows ever get. Unless the show gets some funding beyond sponsors I’m not optimistic. I wish I had better news because I love the show too.
I would love to see more horror movies become TV shows. The expanded storytelling allows for more depth with the characters, and for things to feel more natural. The mean girl, for example, didn’t immediately become nice. It happened more slowly than in a 90-minute movie.
Any news on the cast of season 2? I imagine the legacy characters will all return. I am curious if it will be an all-new cast he will terrorize since most are dead minus the kids.
Whenever I love a show, I end up disappointed with what happens to it or where it goes. Am I a jinx?
*downs shot*
Break my curse, Chucky. Voodoo master.
I am enjoying this first season because it’s so much fun, but if Zackary Arthur is back next season I hope he has more than the one pained facial expression.
This should be an anthology series. Chucky going after the same kids for multiple seasons doesn’t work. Killing multiple people in one town do not work. It’s just not realistic. And please don’t mention FILM series which is totally different from a TV series.
It said Chucky season 2 premieres in 2022 when is the date of Chucky season 2 January the what
It would’ve been listed if it was known.
