The European Steel Association (EUROFER): 𝟭𝟱 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗯𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗘𝗨’𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗹 𝗾𝘂𝗼𝘁𝗮 The European Steel Association (EUROFER) has welcomed the European Union’s new steel trade measure, which entered into force on July 1. The association described the new regulation as a historic milestone for European industrial and trade policy, and as a decisive step against the negative impact of global steel overcapacity on the European industry. The new system replacing existing safeguard measures introduces a tariff rate quota (TRQ) framework that includes lower duty-free import quotas, higher tariffs on imports exceeding quota levels, stronger monitoring mechanisms, and enhanced enforcement tools. EUROFER stated that, unlike previous trade defence measures, this regulation is designed not only to limit import surges but also to protect Europe’s steel production capacity and support the sector’s decarbonisation process. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗨𝗞 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗮 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗾𝘂𝗼𝘁𝗮 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 The UK introduced its provisional steel import quota system on July 1, 2026, with the aim of protecting the domestic steel industry and strengthening local production. Under the new measures announced in March, steel import quotas have been reduced by approximately 60% compared with previous levels, while imports exceeding the allocated quotas will be subject to a 50% tariff. The measures apply to steel products that can be produced in the UK and form part of the government's strategy to increase domestic production capacity, strengthen supply chains, and reduce import pressure. TİM 2025 ihracatçı listesi açıklandı! Demir çelik firmalarının sıralaması nasıl değişti? Listede üretici ihracatçı firmalar arasında sıralama değişiklikleri yaşanırken, bazı şirketler ihracatını önemli ölçüde artırmayı başarırken, bazıları ise hem ihracat tutarında hem de sıralamada gerileme kaydetti. Demir çelik sektörünün önemli dış ticaret firmalarından Kibar Dış Ticaret A.Ş., 2,80 milyar dolarlık ihracatıyla TİM Türkiye'nin İlk 1000 İhracatçısı Listesi'nde 6. sırada yer aldı.  Üretici ihracatçılar arasında ise Habaş Sınai ve Tıbbi Gazlar İstihsal Endüstrisi A.Ş., 1,21 milyar dolarlık ihracatıyla sektör liderliğini korudu. Şirket, ihracatını geçen yıla göre %33,4 artırırken, TİM genel sıralamasında da 23. sıradan 21. sıraya yükselerek dikkat çekti. Sektörde ikinci sırada yer alan Diler Dış Ticaret A.Ş., 701,8 milyon dolar ihracat gerçekleştirdi. Şirketin ihracatı geçen yıla göre %0,2 gerilerken, genel sıralamada 31. sıradan 33. sıraya indi. İçdaş Çelik Enerji Tersane ve Ulaşım Sanayi A.Ş., ihracatını %13,1 artırarak 667,6 milyon dolara yükseltti. Şirket, genel sıralamada 40. sıradan 37. sıraya yükselerek sektör üçüncülüğünü elde etti. During the webinar, Stegra's Chief Technology Officer – Green Iron | Hydrogen & DRI, Durgesh Gupta, shared technical insights into the company's hydrogen-based direct reduced iron (H₂-DRI) technology and its green steel plant currently under construction in Boden, Sweden. In his presentation, Gupta compared the three main steelmaking routes: the conventional blast furnace-basic oxygen furnace (BF-BOF) route, the scrap-based electric arc furnace (EAF) route, and the direct reduced iron-electric arc furnace (DRI-EAF) route. According to the comparison, carbon emission intensity stands at 2,000-2,300 kg CO₂ per tonne of crude steel for the BF-BOF route, 600-670 kg CO₂ per tonne for scrap-based EAF production, and 1,300-1,650 kg CO₂ per tonne for the DRI-EAF route. 𝗘𝗨 𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗹 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗾𝘂𝗼𝘁𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗼𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝟭𝟴.𝟯 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼𝗻𝘀 The European Commission has officially published the country-by-country allocation of tariff-rate quotas totaling 18.345922 million metric tons across 26 steel product categories under its new steel trade regime, which aims to limit the adverse effects of global overcapacity on the EU steel market. The new quota system will apply during the period from 1 July to 31 December 2026. Imports exceeding the allocated quotas will be subject to an additional 50% customs duty. The new regulation was prepared under the Steel Regulation (EU) 2026/1384, adopted by the European Parliament and the Council. In determining the country-specific quota allocations, the European Commission took into account import shares during the 2022–2024 period, free trade agreements, the impact of global overcapacity, security of supply, and the EU's need to diversify its sources of supply. Ukraine was also granted more favorable quota access than other free trade partner countries. Erciyas Çelik Boru, Mersin Fabrikası'ndaki üretimi durdurma kararı aldı Erciyas Çelik Boru Sanayi A.Ş., Mersin Fabrikası'ndaki üretim faaliyetlerini en geç 30 Haziran 2026 tarihi (bugün) itibarıyla piyasa koşullarında oluşabilecek olumlu gelişmeler doğrultusunda ileride yeniden değerlendirilmek üzere geçici olarak belirsiz süreyle tamamen durdurma kararı aldığını açıkladı. Karar kapsamında 95 çalışanın iş akdi feshedilecek ve yaklaşık 67 milyon TL kıdem ve ihbar tazminatı ödenecek. Meranti Green Steel 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝘀 𝗮𝗴𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗟&𝗧 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗗𝗥𝗜/𝗛𝗕𝗜 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗢𝗺𝗮𝗻 According to the company statement, Larsen & Toubro was selected as the partner to carry out the FEED phase after a competitive evaluation process involving several companies worldwide. Meranti Green Steel stated that the FEED process is a critical stage in which the plant’s technical design, process configuration, layout planning, cost estimates, and project schedule are defined, while engineering studies are completed prior to investment in order to reduce technical risks. The statement noted that L&T’s Minerals & Metals team will bring its large-scale engineering capabilities and extensive industry experience to the project. 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗯𝗼𝗻 𝗿𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗲𝗱 Türkiye’s Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources is launching the Energy and Carbon Reduction (EKA) Support Program to encourage businesses that improve energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions. Under the program, enterprises that meet defined performance criteria will receive cash grant support equal to %30 of their annual energy expenses in the year of application. According to the Ministry’s statement, the EKA Support Program aims to incentivize industrial facilities, commercial buildings, and service sector companies to reduce energy intensity, specific energy consumption, and carbon emission intensity. The program targets improving energy efficiency, reducing production costs for businesses, strengthening international competitiveness, and accelerating the transition to a low-carbon economy. KARDEMİR 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗨𝗦𝗗 𝟮.𝟱 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗵 𝗼𝗳 𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗲𝗹𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗕𝘂𝗹𝗴𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗮 In its statement, KARDEMİR, Türkiye’s first integrated iron and steel producer, said it continues to strengthen its position in international markets in line with its strategy focused on value-added production and exports. Within this scope, the company signed a railway wheel sales contract with a customer operating in Bulgaria. It was stated that the products to be manufactured under the agreement are planned to be shipped within the year. The statement emphasized that this contract not only increases KARDEMİR’s export volume but also demonstrates the international trust and demand for its high value-added products.
