Researchers have identified a potential culprit behind the alarming rise in early-onset colorectal cancer: a bacterial toxin called colibactin. Exposure to colibactin in early childhood imprints distinct patterns of DNA mutations that were significantly more common in early-onset cases.
New research suggests that decreased activity of ELOVL2, a key enzyme in lipid metabolism, speeds up white blood cell aging and changes genes associated with the onset of blood cancers.
HPV-associated oropharyngeal cancers are becoming more common. A new study finds that human and HPV DNA hybridize in cancer cells, creating extrachromosomal DNA which drives the growth of tumors.

Eight colleges. One great university. A vibrant panelist event with alumni, current students, faculty, and staff, marked the 60th anniversary of UC San Diego's distinctive undergraduate college system.
There is a startling reality for many college students across the United States- they are struggling to afford food. However, there are efforts campus-wide to combat this challenge and fellow students are behind much of the outreach which is making a measurable impact.
Five graduate scholars have been inducted into the Bouchet Graduate Honor Society for exemplifying academic and personal excellence, fostering environments of support and serving as examples of scholarship, leadership, character, service and advocacy for students in academia.
